Is Anyone Watching Newspaper Printing Facilities, and Credit Card Billing Facilities?

It would seem that with the recent events regarding the private mailing of anthrax laden letters to high-profile public figures, that a significant area of vulnerability is exposed.

Terrorists with the intent of widespread distribution of anthrax spores might take advantage of relatively low security, and relatively high distribution volumes of newspapers, magazines, and mass-mailed billing from credit card companies, utilities, and other monthly billed services.

Most of these billing services (and certainly newspapers and magazines) use high volume production and printing equipment which I suspect is not subject to high levels of security monitoring.

The disastrous effects of such a distribution would range far beyond the biological risk. The economic impact of unopened bills and mail terror would be staggering.

I would consider security at ANY potential high volume distribution point to US homes and businesses, to far outweigh security concerns at airports and public buildings. I hope officials think so too.

No problem. Just iron your newspapers and credit card bills, too!

Thinking and discussing is certainly better than silent hoping.

This is exactly what I'm going to tell my creditors when they call because the bills aren't paid:

Sorry, I don't open any mass mailings anymore!

Very interesting post...I look forward to your thoughts as you seem to be an expert in this area(chemistry). Who do you think is behind these anthrax attacks? Thanks.

I worry less about these products, because each lot of product (being expected to come into contact with open skin orifices) routinely undergoes microbiological testing for sterility.

I posted my answer to that question (in the form of a brief FR essay analysis) the very day that the first case went public in Florida.

Iraq.

A lot of companies are switching to online or over-the-phone bill pay, this might be a way to drastically reduce the threat.

Awww, OWK, you got it all wrong. You are only supposed to react to these attacks and not try to thwart any new ones, or foresee any new dangers. Then you form committees to beef up security in areas where the threat is diminished, well, because it already happened. Plus, if you can´t bomb it from 30,000 feet it looks like it doesn´t get fixed.

Yes, I am starting to get pretty pissed off.

I imagine online bill paying just got the biggest boost in history!

Seriously, it would take a lot of preparation to attempt a large-scale mailing. I mentioned this a few days ago and suggested we need to watch mailing list brokers. You can literally target any population you want. Direct mail is going to take a huge hit — just another segment of our economy nosediving.

Why can I not help thinking about the local TV news this AM saying that if you steam iron your mail it will kill the bacteria.

Now you've done it OWK. If my husband sees me ironing the mail he will have me in a padded cell by sunrise.

Possible Source of Anthrax

It was posted 8 days ago. Seems like some government investigators are now reaching the same conclusion regarding Mohamed Atta's meeting with Iraqi intelligence in Prague, that I did.

Thanks for the warning.

Here I was undecided about the letter I got with Ed McMahon's picture on it, and the words "YOU MAY ALREADY BE A VICTIM".

It goes in the round file.

Of course not ... ALL these facilities have been unmanned since Y2K when the workers were hauled off to Y2K concentration camps under the watch of the UN and it's NWO agenda via the Third Way ...
