Hey no-meat-eaters-on-Fridays-during-Lent!
There are a ton of us Catholic Freepers out there, this is our little thread in the big big world. This is just my way of attempting to get to know people just like me.
A few links I enjoy:
www.vatican.va - the Holiest Web Site on Earth
www.scripturecatholic.com - providing Scripture references to support the teachings of the faith
And lastly, I post a joke I once heard on Free Republic:
What is the difference between a Catholic and a Protestant? Catholics wave to each other in the liqour store.

This day in History - On October 16, 1978, the College of Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church chose Cardinal Karol Wojtyla of Poland to be the new pope; he took the name John Paul II. I remember that day. I was in 6th grade and Sister Louise took our class (about 15 kids - that was the size of the entire 6th grade) over to the convent to watch it on TV. She was also the principal of the school, so we had "pull" on those kinds of things.

Fast and Abstinence means fast, and abstain from meat, not sex. Ummm, sort of the same thing, if you're doing it right. Right?
Yo, Catholic here too, so hold yer flamin'.

Bump.
To: BaBaStooey
Add me to the list (and thanks for the bump, johnie).
Now take a deep breath and repeat after me...."We VENERATE the Virgin Mary. Veneration and worship are NOT the same thing."
You'll be doing that often here. ;-)

At one contracting position this spring, I overheard a young lady mention that she was fasting for Lent. I was curious to see if she were Orthodox or Roman Catholic so I struck up a conversation with her. Apparently, an older member of her parish (she was Roman Catholic) had encouraged her to try the discipline of taking in no food during the daytime throughout Lent. I'd never heard of doing that before but disciplines aren't the same as dogma so I didn't think it was all that unusual. Before we went our separate ways, she mentioned that her boyfriend was doing the same.
Later, another Roman Catholic made mention of the young lady's endeavor to me. I said I'd heard from her about it and that I was quite empressed that she'd attempt such a thing. He laughed a short laugh and said her statement when she began was, "I have to give up sex or food and I figure I can go without food!" It turns out that she and her boyfriend were living together...

(don't flame me, it's an old joke!) A big Catholic BUMP and greetings to all my friends in the Faith from New York
FWIW, it turns out that my maternal grandfather emigrated to the U.S. from the same Polish town where His Holiness was born ...

I'd like to see everyone that posts an article on any Catholic matter or on any matter that may be of interest to Catholics to post it to the Catholic list. If we can remember to do that, then the long list of names becomes irrelevant and everyone that is interested can simply search "Catholic". At least I think that's how it works. Will all the articles with "Catholic" listed in the "To:" box make it to the list?
