Lurker jumping in for a second. Mr. Old Reggie you say Mr. Soothing Dave is misrepresenting Sola Scriptura because the definition is 'scripture is paramount' not 'scripture is exclusive' But when Mr. SD uses a bible quote and historical records to help interpret, he is lambasted for being extra-biblical in his interpretation. If scripture is paramount; the use of history, context, language, to interpret should be acceptable under Sola Scriptura as long as the interpretation is not contrary to other parts of the bible. consistency in definition and application is needed on both sides. Lurker fading back into the backgroung...

Would you be surprised if I said I was in total agreement with this statement?
I wish you would, at least, step back in long enough to provide the instances where SD was accused of "extra Scriptural" interpretations.
Caveat: If I didn't accuse him I may not defend the accusation.

Interpretation should include 3 criteria: literal, historical, grammatical.

Good post. Post at anytime. Thanx. And this Proddie agrees (and Old Reggie would probably agree in principle).

Proclaiming that Christ is your shepherd is of no practical consequence if, in fact, your doctrines, pastors, Bible interpretations, practices, etc., are determined by majority vote. Face it, the sheep are the ultimate authority in your church. And the church councils of the Early Church did what? Play tiddlywinks? Just cause you voted a long time ago doesn't mean y'all didn't vote.
C'mon Bass. You know very well that the early councils were not general plebiscites. They were meetings of bishops, the successors to the Apostles. Not every Tom, Dick, and layman.

Since angelo is on sabbatical, I will issue the formal welcome to the group. Do feel free to share your thoughts when you wish.
As to your current point, I think that Reggie and I both agree with your definition. I am trying to point out the fatal flaw in terms of final authority and where it is vested.
