Proclaiming that Christ is your shepherd is of no practical consequence if, in fact, your doctrines, pastors, Bible interpretations, practices, etc., are determined by majority vote. Face it, the sheep are the ultimate authority in your church.

And the church councils of the Early Church did what? Play tiddlywinks? Just cause you voted a long time ago doesn't mean y'all didn't vote.

C'mon Bass. You know very well that the early councils were not general plebiscites. They were meetings of bishops, the successors to the Apostles. Not every Tom, Dick, and layman.

The newadvent.org website has the Douay-Rheims and the New American Bible online. Go to the left hand side of the front page under "Resources."

Thanks, Dave. I went there and found it. : )

You're welcome.

Not every Tom, Dick, and layman.

I think that would be true of most Protestant "councils" as well. I think most Proddie's conventions would be made up of ministers and probably some lay representatives of the church, hardly every Tom, Dick and layman.
