The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

If I'm away sunning myself on an island and I get a burst pipe, I expect the housesitter to call a plumber, not wait for my return.

God is getting a tan?

The way he described it, it could have been the way most NC keep it today, but I guess that was before the Church was enlightened, huh?

LOL Thanks, I needed a good laugh. Justin describes a Communion service done perhaps monthly or quarterly using Welch's grape juice? LOL Welch didn't even invent the stuff until the 1800's. LOL

This topic has already been handled by one of my brothers, using Justin's own words. I just wanted to thank you for the laugh.

Sounds like the only hope is to return to the 50's and send your boys to a good Jesuit High School.

Poor Sara, Boston College High School (Jesuit) has it's own share of problems. These problems are not respectors of "Orders".

Hey Steven ... here's a simple voting guide for Colorado voters. If you support any of the officials that walked out of this meeting, you might want to rethink.

Matthew 16:19 "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." -btw, this is KJV. How'd them colons get in there and what on earth do they mean - I wonder. Hmm, should we guess, or should we understand it from what a colon means. Perhaps we should look at the Greek and see that the Greek starts thoughts (sentences) with a Cap [amazing - just like english] and this verse Has but one Cap - not two, not three. OOPS, so much for Dave's three sentences in one idea. What does the verse say.. I give you x: whatever you bind... keys, bind. Wow, they had shackles in old rome that required keys or cotterpins (called a key). Well beat me dumm. The verse says what's being given (the keys) and what their purpose is (binding & loosing). What do keys do? They bind and loose things called LOCKS. You can say "locks" can't you, Dave? Oh wait, perhaps I should change into my canvas sneakers and my button down sweater in the closet. Oh wait, Mr. Trolley, is that you coming....

I don't understand why you must continue to impugn my intelligence. It isn't becoming of you.

It has already been pointed out to you that the original Greek manuscripts contain neither punctuation or capitalization. So your argument falls flat. I won't wait for you to admit that.

Now address my sentence from yesterday. "Check on the baby before going to bed and don't forget to brush your teeth."

According to you, since there is no capital letter or new sentence, this must be all one thought. "Brushing my teeth" must be a part of "checking on the baby." Address that, when you are finished calling me stupid.

... Vigilius was imprisoned by Justinian and held for 10 years, until he died. One story that helps explain what the papacy so tenaciously clung to the temporal authority, lest they become pawns of the emperor.

I'd like to see their proof that so many priests are gay. Sounds to me that this is just a bitter soon-to-be-exCatholic venting his anger. The REAL problem is that maybe the Spirit is trying to convince him that his "lifestyle" is wrong.

Dave: "Chapter and verse, indeed. Can you cite me a chapter and verse of any book written by Jesus?"

Johnny: Let's see. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Dueteronomy, .... :)

Touche! ;o)

The homosexual "community" always likes to exagerate their numbers (remember when 10-20% of all americans were gay?). I have no doubt that there are more than a few gay priests (celibacy may be attractive for those who know that their inclination is sinfull and want to get away from it without facing it).

On a different topic. Did you see I scored 100% as an Eastern Orthodox Christian? Are you guys recruiting today?

On the contrary, Johnny, and shame on you, Al. I said "Written" by Jesus, not "inspired." There is a difference. Jesus wrote no Holy books while He was on earth. That was the point.

And how can decent American Catholics not rise up against the hierarchy for it?"

Methinks Mr. Sullivan does not know whereof he speaks. There is a large body of Catholics who will gladly join an mob that aimed to lynch these guys. -- most of the men who go to mass weekly. Doesn't Sullivan realize that pedophilia arises--at least in the cases we have seen--from the homsexual "condition?"(Rhetorical question) Historically, gays have always preferred boys to men, because boys better play the role of women- as- sex- toys.

but you reject it because you care nothing for the truth, which is to say, you care nothing for Jesus, because he is the Truth. You care for nothing but your own manufactured religion.

Maybe you should give your keyboard a rest if you can't add anything to the discussion.

Pete denied Christ three times, So Christ turns around and tells him three times to feed the flock. That's the Job of any apostle for those in Rio-Linda. Apostles feed sheep - ie teach the Gospel. It isn't a "Threefold Charge" it's a threefold forgiveness. Tell me, if you have troops that go awol and then return, do you laud them with honors and make them Generals and officers? Yet you want us to believe that Jesus' restoration of Peter in that verse is just that. The verse doesn't support it, nothing else supports it - it's just your claim - your idea. Kinda shows how dumb the idea is, don't you think. Ok, well, you may not see it; but, those who aren't from Rio Linda can anyway....

Again, with the personal insults. How nice.

Havoc, when did Jesus "restore" the Apostles that ran away and hid? Or are you in agreement with Reggie that abandoning Our Lord and saving your own hide is smart, giving up to fight another day? And is not as well an act of betrayal?

I do appreciate you finishing out my song. Are you aware that we do not use that word during Lent? For the 6 weeks or so that we focus on repentence, we do not utter the joyous word of praise and thanks to God.

Do you have six weeks where you praise the Lord and never repent as well?

Yes, and despite progressively worse treatment after he refused to assent to the 5th ecumenical council which Justinian called, on the grounds that he was not allowed freely to lead the Church of Christ. At some point it stopped being an argument over Dogma and became a contest of Caesero-Papism. The authority of the Pope had been vindicated; his very presence in jail on bread and water was proof of that, for without his assent even the decision of an ecumenical council and the Christian emperor could not prevail. If his assent was not necessary way the hell did Justinian imprison him, trying to get his assent, until he died? Should not the bishop of Rome have been ignored or exiled, unless Justinian actually believed he needed the legitimate pope's assent for the council to be binding.

Indeed, if Christ were to come down from heaven, and personally tell Havoc Peter is the guy he chose to be His Vicar on earth, Havoc would probably assume to was an elaborate trick of the Pope's [g].

This should have about a 1% chance of happening.

Don't support any of those people. I've pretty much had it with most politicians these days.
