Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
No problem. If you'd prefer, you can send it to my email. Do you still have that?
I told you not to give allend the address of your synagogue. :-)
We had a similar incident here in li'l ol' Des Moines a year or so ago and that is what it turned out to be.
LOL! Calvin & Hobbes was my favorite.
My four year old son had this to say this past Saturday about why the seasons change:
"When the time turns green, the temperature will melt.
When the temperature melts, the snow will melt.
When the snow melts, the time will be yellow.
And then it will be Spring!"
Golly, I don't THINK so! It sure isn't the NT that is being referred to here!
Probably. Although Appleton is not only the national headquarters of the John Birch Society (and the hometown of Joe McCarthy, BTW), not that far from here is where the Posse Comitatus (Lyndon LaRouche's group) had a "compound". This is a safe, tolerant area, but I'm not going to kid myself that its completely free of anti-semitism. Even if just of the idiotic, ignorant variety.
Yep, will do.
Elsie, this prophecy was fulfilled 700 years B.C.E. The word mistranslated here as "virgin" is almah, the Hebrew word that means "young woman". The Hebrew word for "virgin" is betulah. Almost every new edition Christian bible translates this correctly. BTW, when was Jesus ever called "Immanuel"?
Hey I can answer that. Apparently Matthew mistranslated it too.
Matthew 1:22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Is that a literal or a figurative translation? ;-)

And like a good cheesehead, you gently corrected him and said it's gold, green and gold, right?
BigMack
The greek translators must have agreed with the word "virgin".
Oh....... they're gone?
They live on in my coffee table cartoon anthologies!
[....it would rank right up there with the Second Coming, IMHO!]
Orthodox scholars generally view the later version as an attempt on St. Cyprian's part to make clear his original intent after early partisans of an inflated view of Roman primacy misused his earlier version.
Incidentally, OR< thanks for the assist in answering ac's question: the later version is St. Cyprian's correction against incipient papism I had been looking for to answer ac's question
but I can a flock!
Yeah but they were wrong, Jesus is not God, my faith is runied, I'm going back to smoking dope.
BigMack
This would be good for ALL of our churches and denominations to do the same!
