The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.
Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |

Likewise, I re-double my accusation that you are reading the Catechism looking for loopholes. I would not recommend you pattern your life after whatever you find with this oh so clever method of reading.
You are probably correct when it concerns my interaction with you. I wonder why I find it necessary to play "loophole word games" with you "Oh Master of Spin"? Do you have any mirrors available? Try looking into one.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"A lawyer looking for loopholes"! This coming from the self appointed "expert" who explains what the Catechism "really" means. You are priceless. Misguided, prone to "spin", vulgarity, and boorishness, but priceless nevertheless.
I only have to explain things to people who lack the understanding of the terms and concepts involved. Or those looking for loopholes.
Sure Dave.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer this honestly. Do you think the Church approves of incest? Beastiality? Necrophilia?
This question is much too rediculous to answer. The mere fact that you'd ask it speaks more of you than your many words.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Or are you just looking for loopholes and missing the plain statement about marriage being the only outlet for sexual expression?
No. Just making a childish attempt to match "loophole" searches with you.

You should then recognize that my beliefs are then not inconsistentI'll go ahead and honor this request for some of them arent. ;-)

They did actually win last night, to snap an 8 game slide. But they need to make up 8 points and vault over three teams just to secure the 8th position. That's a lot of ground to make up. Too bad they're not in the Southeast division. They'd look pretty good compared with those teams. ;o)

Did I ever mention the Colorado Avalanche are the defending Stanley Cup Champions? Did I ever mention that the Avs have some good ex-Stars on their roster? ;o)

I hope you understand that God hates evil, right? I66 - Yes, I do. Let me assure that while I have not yet felt led to post on the subject of the abuse of children by Roman Catholic priests, I am horrified and disgusted by this blatant evil and all that was done by its enablers.
Since I'm not RC, and not very familiar with how the RC leadership functions, I try to avoid tarring the whole RC hierarchy with the brush of this series of evil acts. I've read through all the evidence of systemic RC evil that's been posted on this board over the last couple of months, and still don't agree with the conclusion that you and others have reached. Namely, that the RC institution is irredeemably evil. I think they are heretical, and thus wrong about many crucial truths, but that's different from being evil. Besides, I think just about everyone here is a heretic! ;)
Feel free to accuse me of wearing rose-colored glasses. I call 'em like I see 'em, but am open to the possibility that I'm wrong. If you think Dave provoked you first, then I tell you what I told him - try not to respond to provocation in kind.
God Bless.

BTW ... the Avs could very well defend that title this year. They're looking pretty good at this point and always look better in the playoffs. But they'll have to get by Detroit eventually to get to the Cup.

I don't believe the Church is any one institution. Do you believe that the Church ever was one institution? Meaning, of course, during the Apostolic era? It seems to me to be a crucial difference whether the Church was never a discernable institution, and whether it was briefly a discernable institution that then vanished.
You will not; however, get me to agree it is the "one" Church.
Understood, and I try to keep this in mind. Its interesting to me to see what kind of dialogue is possible between people like us who obviously are operating from very different assumptions. God Bless.
To: SoothingDave
Have you found any Unitarian site that says "sin" with regard to incest? I'll settle for "evil" since I consider it stronger than just "sin".
(Reggie) No, but I went to your "Gay" site and found that incest was just fine.
(SD) I looked up "obtuse" in the dictionary and there you were. The point of the gay site was that they (the gays) consider the Church to be an enemy. They have no problem discerning whether the Church approves of gays or the gay "lifestyle." I wonder why seemingly educated, literate men such as yourself and Havoc do?
It is amazing how one with your "brilliance" could misunderstand my facetious answer to a deliberately insulting, fatuous, and just plain stupid, question. That I considered the question unworthy of a serious reply and answered accordingly should be obvious to all but the most "obtuse".
I'm surprise you missed this old Mr. All Knowing.
To: Invincibly Ignorant
Well MY complaint that you always start by complaining aboiut the lack of Scriptural support for Marian doctrines, but it always ends up that you don't recogize heroic virtue, even that exhibited in Scripture. Therefore, all the "saved" are equal, and since you won't be in heaven until after Judgement Day, neither can the human being who is closest to Jesus in every way.
To: SoothingDave
But he did. If he had not approved of it, it never would have been official teaching in the West. TRD speaks of councils that were overturned by later councils, I know of examples that were Arian or Iconoclastic. I know not of any council approved by the Bishop of Rome that were later reputed.
Where is this "approval" documented. Are you claiming it just "must have been" approved by the "Pope"?
To: SoothingDave
Not with me at my office. What you want to find is a discussion by a recent Byzantinist of the end of the schism during the papacy of Nicholas I--one which argues that there was not a second schism during the papacy of John VIII as some in the West, eager to paint St. Photius the Great as a villain, have often claimed. I think you might also look at Fr. Romanides website,
www.romanity.org. I think it has an essay in which he argues that our Eighth Ecumenical Council is the only reasonable basis for the reunion of the Roman Patriachate with the Church.
To: al_c
That's a lot of ground to make up. Actually, I just checked and they are 5 pts out (they got 2 last night.) But there's still essentially 5 or 6 teams looking for two playoff spots. But, hey, that's what makes it interesting, right?

Dave, do I have to pull out the penalty flag again? You don't have to condemn Reggie and Havoc personally to make your point. God Bless.
I don't like playing nanny, and don't want a reputation as a nag, so I'm going to try to avoid any other policing for the day. So everyone behave yourselves! LOL!! :^)

Did I ever mention that the Avs have some good ex-Stars on their roster? ;o)Like who? Mike Keane? We had him for our first stanley cup championship before we let you guys borrow him. Gill has been waived. I can't think of any others.
To: OLD REGGIE
It is amazing how one with your "brilliance" could misunderstand my facetious answer to a deliberately insulting, fatuous, and just plain stupid, question. How exactly is it all of those things to ask you to back up with the official thoughts of your denomination, whilst picking over mine with a fine toothed comb, looking for loopholes?
SD
To: SoothingDave
I know the Orthodox, at least around here, make the best pierogies. And don't forget the tabouli and baklava. Yum.
To: Invincibly Ignorant
Yeah, Keane was one of the ones I was thinking of. I'll check for others. I thought there were a couple more, but I might be thinking of another team.
