Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
If I may ask, how would you describe in your own words what we do to "accept" in this usage?
Yes, he did, he used the key God gave him to open the kingdom to the Gentile,Mt 16:19 but right after that he relinquished control of them to Paul, because he must have had a problem dealing with them.
Gal 2:11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. V-12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
Gal 2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
that is eternal life btw. It also does not say eternal once you have died and done everything correctly. Once you have accepter the gift, eternity starts. Eternity, forever, from right now to ...,

I agree with your statement, but we are still called to avoid sin. Why?
I'll leave you with that ... I'm outa here for the evening. God bless.
Isn't it amazing how in only a few short years of internet usage eveyone wants every bit of intellectual property for free and RIGHT NOW!?

Yahoo!! I believe this is a first for me to have one of you guys come right out and say we agree.
but
Darn:( I knew there was a catch.
we are still called to avoid sin. Why?
All through the book of 1 John it tells us Why, Because it only makes sense that we are going to love God when we understand why and from what he saved us. And to show are love for him we will keep his commandments. It;s really very simple. Not keeping the cammandments mind you, just why we should avoid sin.

What have I misrepresented? Scripture to vmatt has "prarmount authority" and needs no interpreter except the "Holy Spirit" who told him there are two gods. Where exactly does your Sola Scriptura find the authority to counter him?
Your continued misrepresentation is a transparent attempt to set up a "straw man". Why don't you just make a serious attempt to handle it in an honorable manner?
Honor? What have I misrepresented? The Holy Spirit is given to each Christian and will lead him to knowledge. There is no need to listen to a Church if it counters what the "Holy Spirit" told you Scripture means.
I'll say it a fourth time. If vmatt was a Catholic we could tell him he's wrong because a Catholic will listen to the Church over what the "Holy Spirit" told him.
As a Sola Scriptura Christian, the "Holy Spirit" telling you what Scripture means is the ultimate authority.
Now, tell me why there is not a difference between a Catholic who obeys a Church and a non who obeys "the Holy Spirit" and what it says Scripture means.
I don't appreciate being told I'm "misrepresenting" things. Prove it.

We have gone down this road before, I doubt there are more then a handful of Churches that approve of abortion, but they leave it to the individual to make the choice between them and their Savior, do you think there are more Protestant Church attendees that get abortion then Catholic attendees?
If there is no difference then what have you proved by acting like it is your hallmark?
Let's hear it for democracy! I wonder why Jesus didn't set up his Church on that basis; seems downright un-American!
Surprise, surprise, He did set it up on that basis, why do you think he made the Church in man, and took it out of the Temple?
There are close to 30 solid scriptures that tell us the Holy Spirit is now in man, and that's how God has chosen to work with us this time, individually, and on a one on one basis, it's too bad you can't handle it.
Have you ever asked yourself why even this man Paul, selected by Christ to preach the Good News, felt he had to check with the other Apostles to make sure his preaching was correct? See Gal. 2.
Why would I wonder, these were the men who had known Christ in person, and they were the only men who Paul could compare what the Spirit had led him to teach, and what they were teaching, although it seemed foreign to them on how to deal with Gentiles.
This would have nothing to do with the changes that were coming in the future, because from then on, Paul made the decisions himself, and we as well as you are part of that Gentile Church he brought in.
