Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
Hey, I'm really starting to like this guy, intelligence with common sense. :-)
Yes, I'm off in a few minutes to watch the Super Bowl. I'm sure you ladies will hold down the fort! Go Patriots!!
Well. I think I just got diagnosed with a permanent condition. You may have to lay off for quite awhile. :)
Seriously. I've been pretty out of it all weekend (so my first wife says I'm "not allowed to play" with you guys).
Havoc - I'm afraid I have to ask for an extension on our pending debate. Feel free to post one "can't take the heat big guy? Huh? huh? huh?" and I promise not to bite back.
ALL - I finally found an old bit I had on tape that I thought was funny. It's from a speech Gene Roddenberry (of Star Trek fame) gave a long time ago about network reactions to what he thought were good story ideas.
It's quite funny. But the sad part about it is how much TV has changed since then. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to comment on what changes the networks would make to "The Script" today.
.
Body 'The record company said: why don't you write a typical memo? An honest one of the kind you'd actually get back from the Network when they censor your show. I've done that, and in order to show you how they censor, pretend with me that we have submitted a script to them, based on a classic. In fact, let's choose the best-selling book of all time. Here is exactly the kind of memo we'd get back.
"Gentlemen: reference your script, 'the bible', we are concerned with the story's preoccupation with violence, sex, nudity, and other television code violations. We're particularly concerned with your story's protagonist, 'God', who seems to be completely unmotivated and rather bloodthirsty. Also this principle character as presently written, seems to has highly prejudice in the favor of a single tribe. We remind you that the television code requires equal treatment of blacks, Asians, ........, American Indians and other minority groups.
We are equally concerned with the characterization of the principle characters' son, who is portrayed in wildly inflammatory, revolutionary conduct, which appears to ridicule wealth, banking and loan advertisers, and the American way of life. His attitudes must be clearly labeled to impressionable young television viewers as reprehensible.
Specifically:
1) please delete references to God making woman out of Adam's rib. This network is an equal opportunities employer with commitments to female equality.
2) opening sequences are too suggestive. Delete language and 'both were naked', their subsequent apron of figs leaves will not be a suitable garment in the case of the female,
3) also the tempting of the female by the serpent seems to have sexual connotations. Recommend serpent be substituted with frog or badger.
4) caution in excessive violence throughout, particularly in the case of God drowning over 99% of mankind.
5) also we must question the story logic of having an all-knowing, all-powerful central character who creates faulty humans and then blames them for his own mistakes. In order to make this character more sympathetic, please delete his exhibitions of wrath, and also any indications of a personality insecurity, such as his constant demands for praise.
6) suns and daughters of Noah can not be shown and described as repopulating earth, as television code forbids incestual relationships. Recommend a fleet of arcs, or perhaps strong swimmers from other families can be saved.
7) delete continual references to virgins. Such description of the character Mary is acceptable as a story point, but only if it is clearly indicated that her relationship with main character is totally platonic. Otherwise a marriage ceremony must be indicated.
8) specifics in the portrayal of their son: he cannot be shown practicing medicine without a license. Delete his biased political views, such as 'peace at all costs', his mocking of established courts and judicial systems, and his ridicule and of abnormal attitudes towards capitalism, profit and the laying up of treasures. All of this is further aggravated by your description of the character. Must he be shown as bearded and barefoot?
In summary, a rather extensive rewrite seems indicated. It is suggested that the writers be constantly guided by the question: is this suitable for family-hour viewing.'
PATRIOTS 20 RAMS 17
Sorry, I'm estatic
A drum machine (the TR-808) which was popularized in the early to mid 80s with the advent of hip-hop music. When you hear the big "booooom" from a car stereo, that is rooted in said drum machine.
Well, gee. I got all concerned about Artemis and you quelled all such worries with a Zen quote. What an irony. :)
No need to apologize. That's why they play the game. Rams were outplayed, outhearted and, most especially, outcoached. To the victor goes the spoils and this include good-spirited taunting. Kudos to the better team on this night.
Yep, that's for sure. I know this is going to sound like sour grapes, but I don't think the better team won, but the better coach sure did. But the Pats had the fire in their bellies and played like a team and that's what won it for them (along with a better game plan).
