The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Big Mack, maybe. You? I bet he disagrees.

Thanks, snif.

Yes. They are certainly more than we deserve (and you can take that any way you like) You know, I always had a strong notion of God as Father, and could make parallels to our love for Him. Over the last couple years, I have come to a new understanding of His Love for us.

You and me both:)

I, of course, being the man in this conversation... will.. not.... cry (sniff sniff). :-

Of course, as I look the other way:)

Thank you for your response in re: kecharitomene. I see all Christians as full of grace as we have all received the full dispensation of God's grace, else he could not dwell in our "sin-wracked" bodies. If we have received less of God's grace than Mary or a different sort of grace, how does one quantify that? Are there some people that God just gives enough grace to barely sprinkle over their sins and to others they get a grace tsunami? Or does God freely dispense his grace to all without measure?

I do not (and this will surprise you) jump to the New Eve or all other attendant extraneous titles. I do agree that she was a recipient of grace in the past tense.

so then Hitler is under the blood of Christ and is in heaven today?? And if he's not in heaven, why not???

This is ridiculous. Why? Because Hitler DID know better yet he STILL turned from God and His laws and committed the atrocities of the Nazi regime. Then he even took his own life. So my guess would be ... no, he's not.

This is an entirely different scenario than what we were discussing.

When did Paul lose his apostleship? Was that a Protestant encyclical I missed?

Technically, Paul wasn't one of the "12". He was, I believe, the 14th.

Don't jump on me if this is a Catholic v. Protestant thing... but I thought they were still called "the twelve" when one had died and they were replacing him?

Can I use Ben Franklin's Bible?

Lol, but seriously, the first time I ran a search on the subject that the Holy Spirit would manifest it's self as being of one mind, I expected to find dozens, but to my surprise I found none.(^g^)

what are we discussing then? You said EVERYONE is under the blood of Christ, whether they accept him or not, and I am refuting that statement. Is there something else we are talking about?

hmm, once again no Scripture. I'm beginning to see a pattern.

You've been given scripture from Romans 2 and we've discussed others. Now where's your scriptural support showing that God's grace is limited?

Isa. 7:14...so when was it fulfilled?

Let's consider the passage in context:

[10] Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz,
[11] "Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven."
[12] But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, and I will not put the LORD to the test."
[13] And he said, "Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also?
[14] Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Imman'u-el.
[15] He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good.
[16] For before the child knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land before whose two kings you are in dread will be deserted.
[17] The LORD will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father's house such days as have not come since the day that E'phraim departed from Judah -- the king of Assyria." (Isaiah 7:10-17)

The timeframe on this is around 700 B.C.E. It describes an alliance between Syria and the northern kingdom of Israel, whose combined forces threaten to destroy the kingdom of Judah. Isaiah assures Ahaz, King of Judah, that God will protect his kingdom. He prophesies that a child will be born to a certain woman, and that, before the child learns to distinguish good from evil, the two kingdoms threatening Judah will be destroyed (verses 15 - 16). The prophecy contained in Isaiah 7 clearly addresses this particular political crisis; it in no way refers to the concept of a Messiah. Furthermore, Jesus was not born until 700 years later; his birth could hardly offer any reassurance to King Ahaz.

I'll answer this. No. Only those who are saved are.

Back to square one? No, thanks ... I'll pass.

Don't let anyone tell you that nursing is an effective form of family planning!

My wife and I will second this.

As to who is in hell and who isn't, God determines that.

Not according to the RCC. When I was a child eating meat (I understand it was not the meat that was the sin, but disobeying the church's rule)on Fri. was a sin that if not confessed to a priest was not forgiven, which would send you to hell. So the RCC determined who was in hell and who wasn't

And then you come up with a bad example using Hitler in contrast to the hypothetical unlearned person that I used as an example.

Yes, Jesus died for all. But just because someone doesn't know anything about Him doesn't mean that that person is cut off from His glory. Hitler, on the other hand, had full knowledge but chose to go the other route. Do you see the difference here?
