The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Is clam chowdah koshah?

Only if you use imitation clam. But neither is the kielbasa I might have to bribe him with. :-)

I have reviewed your proposals and am prepared to render my decision as to which bandwagon I will join. ksen, you make a good case, but, living in Wisconsin, I can get all the cheese I want. REG thinks that only the Steelers have a chance to beat the Rams. Steven is on board. Rush Limbaugh is a Steelers fan. And Dave appeals to midwestern camaraderie and a shared love of spicy meat products. Very well, I'm signing up with Steeler Nation!

GO STEELERS!!!

Unreal. I haven't visited these threads in months. I come back this afternoon and I "learn" from you the matrix is monastic?

David, I saw the matrix. I know about monasticism. The matrix isn't about monasticism and Morpheus in sun glasses is not St Benedict.

I knew you'd make the right decision. To celebrate, a rousing chorus of the Steeler Fight Song (original 1973 version), to the tune of the Pennsylvania Polka:

We're from the town with that great football team,
We cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers
Winning's a habit, not only a dream,
Go out and get them Steelers!

Gerela's Gorrillas are here for the show, and so is Franco's Army
It's been 40 years in coming, just keep the Steeler machinery humming.

Defense, Defense, make them scramble, intercept that ball!
Defense, Defense, blitz them, drive them, up against a wall!

Franco, Franco, look at that we've got a running game,
He's Rookie of the Year, we're so glad he's playing here,
Now join with me, and sing our Steelers cheer!

We're from the town with that great football team,
We cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers
Winning's a habit, not only a dream,
Go out and get them Steelers!

Gerela's Gorrilas are here for the show, and so is Frenchy's Legion
It's been 40 years in coming, just keep the Steelers machinery humming.

Defense, Defense, make that tackle, intercept that ball!
Defense, Defense, Mean Joe Greene will drive them up a wall!

Franco, Franco, can you believe we have a running game?
His 1000 yards were great, he's so hard to overrate,
Good things will come to those that sit and wait.

This should be called the very last post when this thing dies.

So. He was speaking of his crucifixion. Did not every man leave him alone?

He is not speaking here of every man on the face of the earth, he was referring to those at that time, his disciples, not we. By your interpretation comparing it to the every eye phrase it would mean every man on the earth at the time which was not the case.

Gee that's funny. Even if your interpretation is correct every man on earth at that time still left him alone.

This verse says every man and in light of your statement above I was wondering if you thought it included a cultist like me or just every man you find convenient?

Every man. Cultists such as you and non-cultists alike.

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

So what part of "every" isn't "every" in this verse?

Maybe its time you suggest to me what "every" means.

Words have meaning only in their context and that is the great challenge of rightly dividing, with two or three witnesses let all things be established, and he wasn't talking about court. "Every" does not always mean every and one must be able to prove its context. Make sense?

Not really. In the context of all the verses we've discussed your interpretation of "every" meaning "not every" is harder to prove than my interpretation of "every" actually meaning "every". Yet you press on. But those cultsih ideas have to be twisted somehow I guess.

I didn't know you were a Baptist. But if you don't like our records then take that up with the professional historians, as they tend to accept them. The pros know that all history is basically the reconstruction of skeletal remains with a little flesh and cloth attached.

Where did Jesus say: "the professionals will know the truth and thee truth shall make you free". I must have missed that part. The professionals? That's very laughable. You don't consider yourself a professional? Do ya?

The pros know that all history is basically the reconstruction of skeletal remains with a little flesh and cloth attached.

Now you're gonna tell me you believe that shroud stuff.

This part belongs to you. They have to be "dishonest" because YOU want to throw out all the evidence because some is tainted? This must be the "Christian" equivalent of Miranda.

You didn't respond at all to my post. Therefore I'll have to treat you the same.

You shouldn't put something in italics and make it look like it was me that said it. It was you. You're being dishonest and proving my point. Thank you.

Now you're gonna tell me you believe that shroud stuff.

Now there's a topic that I don't recall being covered here yet. The Vatican has never taken an official stance on the shroud. Quickie quiz: does that mean that the catholics can discuss it freely or not at all?

It's my guess that they will discuss it, but will choose their words EXTRA carefully just in case the Vatican does eventually come out with something definitive, so that they won't get caught too far outside the camp.

The term "plausible deniability" comes to mind. ;^)

I have been a "professional"--though not in this field-- and from my small experience I know that no historical investigation gives more than probable result, because it always leaves unresolved questions that have come up. Surely you don't expect me to respond to your "Shroud" crap.

than why is the 1000 year reign described in Revelation not a 1000 literal years, considering the context of it having a beginning and an end.

As I have said before, I have no belief regarding this period and am actively seeking the answer. It cannot be considered impossible that it may have actually ocurred in one day, the precedent being the sun and moon standing still for a day (as in a thousand years). This could be a type to provide us with the answer. I think it is worthy of consideration.

Joshua 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

It is interesting what words Peter uses to define a similar reference with such a strong reference to its importance.

2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
