Are you one of those anti-Christmas people? This same type of thinking is shown on that website.

No, although I am starting to despise what the world has made of Christmas. I like celebrating the birth of my Saviour.

Don't you find peculiar the similarity between pagan Mother/Child worship and what Catholicism has done with Mary and the baby Jesus? You guys have even appropriated the "Queen of Heaven" title from Jeremiah for Mary. If I were Catholic that would make me a little nervous.

I'm not really certain why people seem to need to argue about denominations in the Christian faith. What is wrong with any denomination, as long as they say "Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins"?

The question is, where is Sola Scriptura in Scripture? We always get Timothy. The trouble is when one goes there, there is no there, there. The Protestant says "nothing without clear, postive command of Scripture." But no-- I mean NO, KEIN, NADA-- verse in Scripture clearly, unequivocally, says this. They fight us to death on Matthew et al, but there is no scriptural basis for their central and distinctive doctrine.

And what do they DO and what do they NOT do?" I do agree that in the most gosh-awful Christian sect there is great good, or at least good people.

Be eager to worship Christ and Him alone.

Where in scripture are we directed to worship Christ?

I read it. I'm Catholic and I thought isn't this interesting. After all "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God".And since God created heaven and earth and all creatures it seems pretty likely that throughout the ages before He became incarnate,His creatures had glimmerings and glimpses of Truth. Doesn't it seem possible that one of those little insights involved a woman, who was quite connected?

Then in the fullness of time,God sent His Son to dwell among us. And He was human and divine and was given to us through a woman,Mary. He came to the Israelites because they had come the closest to knowing God as He is and God knew that on that fertile and healthy grounding He could appear and His Chosen People were to bring God to His creatures so that all that He made might have a Way to go back to Him.

I would say that articles like that should give you all a lot of food for thought.

That’s true. Genesis 3:15 has been around for a long time. It’s also possible that Satan knew about it too and has done all he could throughout history to try to counterfeit what God was going to do.

In The Two Babylons the author attempts to tie all the pagan gods back to Babylon and Nimrod and a perverting of God’s future plan for the redemption of Mankind. He tells the story of Achilles and points out the remarkable similarities between that story and the curse pronounced in the garden that the serpent will strike “His” heel and that “He “ would crush the serpent’s head.

No wonder you guys can't synthesise anything about Mary from the texts. You are stuck looking at the trees.

Well it looks like you have come up with an new form of "Spintasia" :)

This is a Kingdom of Heaven parable. The Kingdom of Heaven is not the Church, although the Church will be a part of the Kingdom of Heaven...Here is how our membership process works...

OK. Thanks for the clarification! I think I understand where you are coming from now.

Now, I'm assuming this applies to members specifically, but that the general public as a whole, sinners and all, are welcome to come and worship with you?

I was thinking about writing a letter to the editor of a local Catholic paper (The Texas Catholic), to the bishop and to the parish itself. Of course, the parish may not listen as it is Our Lady of Guadalupe.

In the ever quoted words of SD, that is truly sad.

So a year down the road, nothing will have changed, and you will be among all those who defend the will of the church to have it there

If I may ask, what was previously in the spot that her picture now hangs?

that Jews used both and that they didn't move toward an exclusive use of the "Hebrew" scriptures until the 2nd Century

I disagree. It was used by those who didn't know Hebrew. Same sort of reason that the mass is now offered in English rather than in Latin. I doubt that many Jews used both. Those who didn't know Hebrew used the Greek, and those that did used the Hebrew. Why would someone who was comfortable with Hebrew ever use a Greek translation? Do you consider the Vulgate or the NAB to be more authoritative?

I gather that many Greek-speaking Jews were attracted to Christianity in part because they used the same Scriptures.

I think that those who were attracted to Christianity were attracted because it didn't require observance of the Law. Same sort of thing that makes people Reform Jews today.

"Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", could you lose the pants and earrings?

"Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", sign here and God will bless you tenfold!

"Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", by and by there are three Gods in one.

"Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", ever heard of Joseph Smith?

"Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", Ghana is nice this time of year.

"Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", I have grieviously sinned with those women, but I'm still your pastor.

"Jesus is the King, and has come to save us from our sins", three Hail Mary's, three Our Fathers and the Apostles Creed.

Lost people generally don't find much pleasure in talking about the things of God, it tends to cause conviction.

I love this! SD, I nominate this as 'quote of the day'.

Exactly. Everyone is welcome.

We've even had a couple of Jewish people come....of course they left as Baptists. ;^)

Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
