PRAYER WARRIORS - Adopt a Soldier and Pray Today!
"WINGS AND A PRAYER" ^ | October 14, 2001 | dandelion

Posted on 10/14/2001 3:39:31 PM PDT by dandelion

You want to fight terrorism? Then go into battle with a Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine today - on your knees in prayer. We're asking each praying Freeper to adopt one Soldier to pray for throughout this war. Please go to the "WINGS AND A PRAYER" page and sign up for your Warrior today throught the "Adopt a Soldier" program linked on the page. Then download the printable Angel and send it to your Soldier with your name and his/her name on it, promising to pray specifically for them each day throughout this war "until relieved of duty". Be prepared to receive prayer requests and give support in a VERY real way and meaningful way. PRAYER WARRIORS, TO YOUR BATTLE STATIONS...

That's great 2Jedismom!

A couple more tips for ya...
Servicemembers have been instructed not to open mail from unknown senders. I fear that any packages sent to "any soldier" may be discarded.

Ideally you would want to send it to a specific soldier who knows it is coming.
You can do this by sending post cards to "any service member" first and offering care packages and requesting instructions on how best to send them. It's also important to have a specific address because the mail handlers, however unfortunate, will hoard the goods for themselves. I speak from experience.
You can also get specific names and addresses thru family, friends and perhaps any local military bases.

Good point. And you might check with the chaplain's offices at bases to find out who would like a little extra support - I'm talking to one Airforce Chaplain (an old friend of mine) who has told me he'd be very happy to help folks in his squadron get signed up!

Do we have a bump list for all these soldier support threads? Could you register all these great threads in one place so we can sign up for a big ol' Patriotic BUMP?

Thanks for the tips, Zed...and 68-69, I freepmailed Hillary's Lovely Legs and asked her exactly what the guild was doing, I'm a little unclear. This guild thing seems like the route to go, though.

I hate to bring this news to so many wonderful people!

At 9:50 PM EST I received an email from one of our Volunteers. She informed me that the Red Crossed has halted their "Any Soldier Mail Program" and we need to do the same! I am terribly sorry but we need to protect our men and women at this time and if it means stopping the Any Solider addresses on our web site we will do so.

I apologizes to everyone who sent letters to "Any SOldier" as of today the Red Cross will no longer be accepting these cards, letters and packages.

We continue to ask you to make your first contact with your Service Member a postcard.

I have also received alot of email from people wondering when they will receive their address. We are diligently working on this. We have received wonderful support from radio stations nationwide. They are helping us inform the public of this free service. And in turn it has become a Tremendous success! You are who we thank for this!

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask! We are here to help.

With The Warmest Regards,

Lynette

Okay, this means that the ANONYMOUS "Any Soldier" program is halted, but please note that the hand-picked soldiers-to-citizens "adopt-a-soldier" programs continue. So we WILL be able to correspond with the soldiers personally; they just do not want ANY packages that are anonymous or unspecified. Probably from now on, all packages that are NOT expected will be screened/destroyed.

Make sure to sign up for and adopt a SPECIFIC soldier so you can send your love and support!!
