Thank you for your support, sometimes it's the little things that mean a whole lot. This thread really touched me.

I lived for a year out of a tent in Bosnia and found that a care package from home was just about the best thing a soldier could get while deployed. A few things from the homeland and a message of support was always a great pick-me-up.

Some suggested things to send in a care package include;
An issue of the soldiers local newspaper or USA Today
Flavored chapstick
Hard candy and chocolates
cigarettes and a lighter
pop tarts
Crackers and squirting cheese
Pens,Paper and envelopes
A magazine
A new toothbrush
gum
q-tips
chewing tobacco
black kiwi boot polish
A good luck charm
A deck of cards
and much more. Just keep it limited to small items and remember that they miss even the simplest things that we take for granted each and every day.

I remember being in flight quarters and as soon as we were able to take a break or just be done with for the day and night. I would be in berthing and all they would ask was how many pallets of mail was received.

Not yet. They did send a confriming e-mail to let me know they signed me up. The website says because of the response and the slowness of their server, it might take a couple or htree days to get the info back out to you.

Thanks! I posted earlier that I have been waiting nearly a week for a name, so I just wondered.

I just signed up to adopt a soldier! Excellent! I love making up care packages (especially) and sending cards and notes.

Thank you, again, for the flag. Here's a bump!

Good questions to be asking. There is no "organization" on the "Wings and a Prayer" page, just me and other Freepers, most notably Zed-Leppelin who put up the mirror site (what a wonderful good deed!!) The "Adopt a Soldier" site is a nice little page that has a quick turnaround for those who are impatient and ready to get started. They have several links, including one to "Support Our Soldiers"...

These are great links. I actually got the idea for the "Wings and a Prayer" site from these threads. I'll get a links bar at the bottom so we can get some cross-pollination going...

"cross-pollination"

Yes CROSS Pollination is always good for a prayer thread!
I am sure HE would approve.

I've got a care package ready to send. It's got envelopes, writing tablet, two big bags of candy (sealed in the bags), deoderant, hand lotion and disposable razors. I wanted to send some baby powder (my husband can't live without the stuff) but couldn't find any that were sealed and feared it might leak out in the box and cause an uproar. I also enclosed a picture of my two jedis and myself and a short note.

I'm sending it to:

Any Service Member
USS Enterprise
CVN 65
FPO AE 09543-2810

Do I need to write anything else on there besides my return address, or should I word it differently? Thanks for the tips on things to send, I'm intending on doing this pretty frequently.

I don't understand why you have a hard time. I use Netscape and it loaded up quickly for me. Maybe its the version of Netscape you use?

Do I understand correctly, that the Wings and a Prayer site is yours? What a great idea. Mozilla? Possible, seems I tried that some time ago and had odd problems afterwards. Did you try Mozilla for downloads? I use download accelorator, it allows for 'resume', comes in handy for long downloads.

And a 'bump' to the top.
