If you have a baby on the way, bought a new car or house, found out your kid aced his SAT, are having a good harvest, caught an excellent fish, or have some other happy news please post it. I am so depressed and sad for my country, and I don't know ANYONE in person who has had anything nice happen in the last month. Not one person.

Correction: One person My Biochem professor just got a major grant for genetic research, I think he said ten million? But he didn't look HAPPY about it, just stressed.

Well - I know one thing - I'm going to visit this thread and the thread on "Brady Boomers" tonight - because I need some cheering up and I need to get a smile on my face.

Talk about a bad autumn!!

My good news is that our oldest son - a freshman in college is coming home for the weekend - and will be here until Tuesday (Fall Break)

YEAH - now THAT's Good NEWS!!!

Ok, this in no way compares with a major grant, but my twins just made a 100% on their first spelling test in first grade AND came home to tell me they helped America by saying the Pledge of Allegiance today. They also think President Bush is handsome for a grandpa looking kind of guy! LOL I am raising some fine Republican gals!

OK, I've got something for you:

At the age of 47, my dad had a heart attack. The doctors told him he had five years to live, at best.

This year, my dad celebrated his 71st birthday. And, during the past 24 years, he's had three different doctors -- and, each one has died of some medical disease.

But, my dad is doing fine. The doctors died. But, the patient with five years to live is still doing great, twenty-four years later. How's that?

OH yes - AND my other 2 sons who are still at home - 14 and 9 - just finished playing a violin and cello duet of "God Bless America" and "America, the Beautiful".

That's good news - although - it did make me tear up a bit.

The sunset down here in Costa Rica is beautiful and Arenal Volcano is belching loudly.
Bait, the ugliest cat on the planet, threw up a bit ago and missed the computer keyboard.
(Bait's gotta quit eating strange crawly things.)
Daughter in Denver emailed me a beautiful birthday card and it's not my birthday until next week.

" But he didn't look HAPPY about it, just stressed."

It is like when I win a big IT project. Great to have sold it, but, crap, now I have to deliver it! ah, the stress of success.

Well, thank you so much for asking! My nephew, who will be 10 in a couple of months, has struggled mightily with reading. He has Central Auditory Processing Disorder (like Dyslexia for the ears), and has had private tutoring with special programs geared to his disorder. Getting him to read anything has been like pulling teeth. His cub scout troup went to the library last night & he got a Captain Underpants book. He read it in the car on the way home, he read it at the kitchen table after that, he read it before going to sleep, he read it the next morning, and last I heard, he was on page 89! It is some of the most wonderful news I could receive! I am so happy for him and for his future!
