What better way to reach others who may be experiencing a sudden hearing loss. Many may be affected with this problem. Hearing loss and ringing in the ear is not just a sign of aging.

Rush says he's been on Prednisone for the last six weeks and a couple of chemo-drugs.

Actually I welcomed the physicians talk about Rush's problems from a professional point of view. There are a lot of people I like on this thread. I'm not sure why some of them are being so hard on Rush.

I don't idolize the guy by any means, to be honest I hardly every listen, but I'd sure hate to lose his presence on the air.

I don't see this as egomaniacal at all. An audience of upwards of 50 million people finds this interesting. Remember 20 million listeners per day translates to a lot more than that overall. Give the guy some slack.

I don't think I'm too far off base when I state that the (and I don't say this with malace, since I join in as well at times) forum sometimes stoops to the pack attack mentality without merit at times. I feel that this is probably one of those times.

**Out of curiosity, how much do these drugs cost?**

Whatever it is, Rush can afford it.

Good point. Rush can reach millions and educate them about this disease. He said he now realizes that as far back as February the hearing loss may have already begun because he had been complaining to his technicians that he didn't like the way the tapes of his voice were sounding. He thought this own voice on tape sounded too fast, almost like The Chipmunks.

I have no problem with a press conference or anyone listening, he is no doubt a public figure.

As for the egomaniac line, I kinda took that back at post #49.

However, this thread was a BREAKING NEWS post of his PENDING news conference. This at a time when much more important issues are 'breaking news'. This was a breaking news announcement that there will be Rush's Ear News Conference - That is what got my ire, the attention being paid to a pre-press conference announcement.

People on this thread seem to have so much at stake in this, as it obvious from their posts, I for one really don't care on way or the other. Certainly he has every right to have a news conference. Some here also mention the pentagon thing, I made no comment about that spectacle either. I just don't see the announcment of an announcement about Rush's ear as Breaking News when we are arguably at WAR.

Yes, new drugs like Remicade and Enbrel, introduced around 1999, are the greatest breakthrough drugs against auto-immune diseases like Crohn's and rheumatiod arthritis since prednisone in the 50's. Moreover, there are a whole bunch more in the pipeline pending FDA approval.

Plus there is also this:

The scientists believe that they have discovered what causes the body's defences mistakenly to attack healthy joints and tissue. The breakthrough focuses on the role of so-called B-cells, white blood cells that defend the body against viruses and bacteria by making antibodies. Although these antibodies are made at random by B-cells, most of them prove useful against some microbe or other.

Every so often, however, the B-cells accidentally make antibodies that attack healthy tissue. Worse still, some of these errant antibodies also trigger the production of copies of themselves. The result, according to the University College team, is a huge self-sustained attack on joints and tissue, which appears in the sufferer as rheumatoid arthritis.

Professor Jonathan Edwards, who is leading the research team, told The Telegraph: "It probably takes just one genetic mistake in a lifetime to trigger this reaction but once it gets going it becomes a vicious circle."

Prof Edwards and his colleagues believe that they have found a way to break the circle, using drugs that seek out and destroy B-cells. He said: "Unlike with other cells in the immune system, most people can live without any B-cells for a while. By the time we reach adulthood we have already made most of the antibodies we need."

More here.

As an arthritis sufferer I look forward to these quantum leaps forward in treatment. After a single treatment to wipe out all the B-cells, the body responds by making fresh ones. The chances of these new B-cells making the same mistake as their predecessors, however, thereby triggering a return of rheumatoid arthritis, is small.

Yes, wonderful drugs, until someone gets an adverse reaction and the lawyer/shark-feeding frenzy starts.

While I don't think it would be a good idea to conflict with it, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the physicians didn't know about the Pentagon Memorial. I didn't until I turned on the news this morning.

I just posted the AP story on the news conference here.

The story contains some information on the technology Rush is using on his radio show.

"I just don't see the announcment of an announcement about Rush's ear as Breaking News when we are arguably at WAR. "

I strongly disagree. Rush arguably changed history every bit as much as the the WTC attack, especially considering his influence on many times more than 600 voters in Florida. And I think your reference to Rush's "earache" demonstrates a level of emotional maturity consistent with the rest of your comments.
