Of course there is always the possibility of an opportunist with an axe to grind who is taking advantage of a bad situation.Oh, please. This is all happening practically in the terrorists' back yard. The level of denial on this forum is amazing.

no connection to 9-11 bla bla bla LOL! Now that is great! Thats what I call first class on-the-scene reporting! Thats why I was a cameraman for 20 years before I became a reporter.

...and now -The Enemy Within- has succeeded in frightening people into not looking to this week's National ENQUIRER for it's .."Just the Facts, Ma'am".. Journalism on the worst misbehaviors of GARY CONDIT, JESSE JACKSON, the CLINTONS-3 and OSAMA bin LADEN.
...Don't let them get away with THIS one. The National ENQUIRER comes out tomorrow morning with its print editions being printed in 7 different locations in the USA ...all outside of Florida.
BUY the National ENQUIRER tomorrow and get it right, folks...
...as Congresswoman ~LORETTA SANCHEZ~ was pestered real hard last night by SEAN HANNITY -&- ALAN COLMES on the full FoX News Channel about "Whose Names are on the List of the ones ~CONDIT~ has had affairs with"..
...thanks in part to the all summer long pressure brought on the former Lovers of ~GARY CONDIT~, like a still silent ~LORETTA SANCHEZ~ herself, to come forward...
...to help the long-suffering LEVY Family find their missing daughter CHANDRA.
GOD SPEED...

We all get you point that you dont believe this story ....
Hey, Dog! No, what I said was:
Hmm? I think that CNN must be causing these outbreaks. Every time an outbreak occurs they are right there! Looks suspicious to me. (/sarcasm)
Personally, I think this Anthrax story/SCARE is way overblown. It's not a terrorist style at all. People are running scared over so little I think. Just my opinion, of course. . .
I'm talking about the GENERAL SCARE caused by the media and folks in general to think it's a SERIOUS threat - particularly as related to TERRORISM.
The sarcasm was regarding CNN being around and perhaps causing the Anthrax (uh. . .I'm NOT a CNN fan as you can tell. Gimme FOX News Channel 24 hours).
Sorry I wasn't as clear as I should have been. People can't read my mind. "My bad!"

I heard the same thing, Also heard there was no LETTER.

I saw Loretta Sanchez last night, too. She looked extremely uncomfortable when Sean and Allen starting talking about the "list" of people in Congress who've had affairs. She wanted to vanish into thin air. I was glad to see the smirk wiped off of her face for a couple of seconds.

I will check my references, but from memory I know that atmospheric concentrations of 10-15 spores per cubic meter was sufficient to achieve 90% infection rates in test animals. I can't imagine that with atmospheric densities in the range of 10 to 15 spores per cubic meter that the test animals were able to develop spore loadings above 8,000 spores per individual. They would have to have breathed 800 to 1500 cubic meters of air.
If I'm wrong on this, I will willingly concede.

"Does this mean I need to go to the mall again and buy another car?" I'm buying a new truck, does that count? Did I do good?

The strain may have been first isolated in the 50's but it has undoubtedly been cultured many tomes since then in laboratories.

Exposure to the spores does not mean you have the diesase.
JOHNB IS RIGHT.

I haven't noticed any panic. What I've seen on this forum is information exchange. What I've seen in Florida is an orderly lining up of people waiting to see what their future holds. I've seen no panic. Not even in the family members of the people affected by this. I've seen the FBI handle a record number of investigations, in a short period of time. I, for one, am proud of Americans, and of AG Ashcroft.

From the
CDC:
Anthrax spores lend themselves well to aerosolization and resist environmental degradation. Moreover, these spores, at 2-6 microns in diameter, are the ideal size for impinging on human lower respiratory mucosa, optimizing the chance for infection. It is the manufacture and delivery of anthrax spores in this particular size range (avoiding clumping in larger particles) that presents a substantial challenge to the terrorist attempting to use the agent as a weapon. The milling process imparts a static charge to small anthrax particles, making them more difficult to work with and, perhaps, enabling them to bind to soil particles (11). This, in part, may account for the relatively low secondary aerosolization potential of anthrax, as released spores bind to soil, now clumping in particles substantially in excess of 6 microns. This clumping tendency, together with a high estimated ID50 of 8,000-10,000 spores may help explain the rarity of human anthrax in most of the Western world, even in areas of high soil contamination. Other potential bioweapons, such as Q fever and tularemia, have ID50 values as low as 1 and 10 organisms, respectively.
(ID50 is the dose necessary to cause anthrax in 50% of people who ingested that dose.)

This whole anthrax thing has got people listening now. 20/20 tonight with Barbara Walters will be interviewing Bob Kramer from BioPort. Kramer says they are going for the license approval inspection beginning on Monday the 15th.
I find this bizzare, and very timely too! BioPort and the others are pushing this and everyone is buying it. Don't be fooled by the BS!
To: hole_n_one
The media is NOT doing a good job of clarifying what Anthrax is, hence the confusion. It is a bacteria. When it is exposed to air (oxygenated environment, like the one we live in) it becomes a spore - kinda like the shell of a pecan. You breathe in the spores and if they get past the nose hairs, past the cilia in your trachea which act like little Fulller brushes to push the crud up outta your trachea, they settle down in the lungs and the "pecan shell" goes away and the "pecan meat" or vegetative form takes "root" and grows. It causes tremendous cell death where it grows, along with edema - fluid accumulation. It does other gross things and you find yourself 6 feet under.
I know, you'll never look at a "pecan" the same way again! (Sorry)
Remember, it is a bacteria NOT A VIRUS, ok?
