No, I haven't tried that, but I did clear my cache. Didn't help.

If you're using IE, did you delete the files by going to
Tools -> Internet Options... -> Delete Files...(General Tab)? If you did but didn't do anything else--do this: Next to the
Delete Files... button is the
Settings... button. Click that button and in the next box select
View Files.... Your cookies should be the only files that are shown since you deleted everything else. Here select all the cookies or search for the
freerepublic.com cookies and delete them.
I decided to include these instructions just in case you didn't do this next step. Hopefully, if you didn't, it will help.

Okay, I do use IE and I did it step by step and deleted all FR cookies. I still can't save my settings. Each time I open a new thread it goes back to the old style. But, thanks for the suggestions. I guess, like everyone else, I will just have to learn to deal with this. :-)

John, why is it every time I want to read a thread in the "old style" I have to click the "old style" link at the top of each thread, and wait for the thread to re-load?
shouldn't I be able to select "old style" once and have my settings stay that way?
Not that I'm against new things, I just prefer the "old style"
To: John Robinson
Have used it already, I like it.

I have gone into "settings" and selected TEMPLATE: Classic FreeRepublic, PAGINATION: 250, TIMEZONE: Pacific. After each selection it says, in red, "this is the current setting". But I can find nowhere to save these settings. The only way out of this "settings page" is to back out, which, of course, changes the settings. The only other thing to do is open a new window in FR. But when I open a new thread, I am back in the "New Style" again and have to re-open the thread in the "Old Style". What am I missing?
Cote, are you able to open a new thread in the "old style"?
This is SO frustrating! Can you help out here, John?
To: Mama_Bear
Eep! I'll work on getting a "return" url in there.
To: usconservative
Old Style is going away. It's just there for the fond memories.
Seriously, I want the "Classic" view to be as close to the old style that nobody will even remember there was such a thing. It's pretty close now.
To: John Robinson
Eep! I'll work on getting a "return" url in there. Thank you. Will that save our settings?
I have noticed over the course of the day that the 'new style' is looking more and more like the 'old style'. That's good, because some of us were having a problem being able to read the threads earlier today. The font seemed small. It is much better now.
The other question I have is, in order to post an article are we going to have to learn CSS? I sure hope not, because most of the people I have talked to don't want to have anything to do with it. I've looked over the tutorials on CSS and I can't figure it out.
To: Mama_Bear
No, you won't need to learn CSS. And in the future, people won't need to learn HTML to post.
I included that return link for the settings. When you click a setting it saves immediately. Just use the provided Return link to get back to the article.
To: John Robinson
Well, that is good news. Some of us old dogs don't want to learn new tricks. :-)
Thanks for fixing the 'settings' page.

Old Style is going away. It's just there for the fond memories. That's a shame. The "old style" is the easiest to read/use/understand format I've seen on the 'net. Just my personal preference (gee, I sure wish it could stay!)
Thanks for everything you do on FR John. Guess I'll just have to learn the "new way" or develop a "classic" style sheet! LOL!
Regards,
To: John Robinson
This doesn't pertain to your new layout design, which I rather like....change is GOOD.
My request is a search box on the "post article" page ABOVE the form. I think it would be a wonderful reminder to search for a previous post before posting. It's an idea, anyhow.

I was able to open a new thread in the old setting but from what John says that is irrelevant because the old style will soon be a thing of the past. Even after John fixed the settings page, I still can't get my settings to save. All pages open for me in the new style. But, you're right, it doesn't matter anyway. Actually, I am seeing less and less difference between the old and new now. I think I can deal with this.
Now, if we can get our music and our backgrounds back on our profile pages, all will be well! LOL!
To: JohnRob
apologies if this has been asked/answered,
but was it your intention to remove the ability to click
a post number in order to copy the url of that paricular post ?
that sure was a nice handy way to point someone to a particular
post without having to wade through an entire thread...
and btw, the new format is lookin' really good, imho.
