GMA Addresses Rush's Hearing
Good Morning America

Posted on 10/09/2001 4:51:18 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Good Morning America just finished airing a piece on Rush's hearing problems.

Diane Sawyer was the presenter, and she was generally sympathetic.

A couple of discordant notes, however. First, of the numerous photos of Rush that were displayed, almost all were unflattering and out-of-date, showing the much heavier Rush of his pre-diet days.

Also, the ABC house physician, Dr. Nancy Snyderman, gave a rather unilluminating, cool analysis, and her only personal comment about Rush was unsympathetic. She said that in discussing the cause of his illness, he was being "cagey" and suggested that by not immediately revealing the cause, he was squandering an opportunity to help others.

By the way, she speculated that the cause, rather than anything exotic, was likely the long exposure to high volumes through headphones, or some kind of infection. She said that if the nerve has been damaged the hearing loss is irreversible, and added that even a cochlear implant could not restore normal hearing.

.... it is a shame to see ABC treat a media giant like this .... even in times of illness - mainstream media can be cruel and cold ....
p.s. why is dianne sawyer so cheery and chatty lately?? poor Charlie Gibson looks like he is FED up with her.

How many of these people ask a lot of questions when one of their own get AIDS? "Oh, no, we can't speculate on how it was contracted. That's their personal life..."

I'm no doctor but this seems very unlikely. It seems that hearing loss due to cumulative exposure to high volumes would be gradual not sudden and severe as it has in this case. My amatuer opinion is that a viral infection is involved. I am curious why he is reluctant to say WHY he is going deaf. Nonetheless, my prayers are with him.

I don't see enough of Sawyer to have detected any change. Her basic TV persona seems saccharine and smarmy to me. Ol' Charlie Gibson is a predictable liberal, but at least not filled with the venom of a Bryant Gumbel.

Well, Dr. Dimwit, Rush stated on his program that his doctors don't know the cause of his deafness.

Think of me as some kind of FR paratrooper (although one risking only indigestion), willing to go behind the lines of the adversary and send back intelligence from socialism's outposts!

In particular this morning, I was curious to see if any of the morning shows were going to address Rush's hearing problem.

Interesting that you mentioned Imus. The ABC doctor mentioned that Imus too suffers from hearing loss as a result of decades of headphone use.

And you can bet that Rush is seeing the best doctors that money can buy. If they can't diagnose him, nobody can.

I flipped the channels during the network news shows last night while eating dinner and saw no reference at all to his ailment. Typical bias. If Gumbel's show mentions it today, you can certainly can count on his sneers, caustic talk, and if lucky, a "f*@king idiot" comment for good measure.

Don Imus was also discussing it. I caught him bring it up and sounded genuinely sorry for Rush. He asked Charles to reread the story and they would discuss it in a few minutes. Unfortunately, I got to work too soon and didn't hear the continuation.

Right. Of course if Jesse Jackson had stubbed his toe, Bryant would have led with it.

I did not see this, but tell the good (use that word loosely) doc (who, by the way is a FOB), Rush does not owe the public anything.

I am so heavy hearted over this....I hope a trasplant will work if it comes to that.....if it wasn't for Rush, we'd all be living in Liberal Hell...waiting for our own personal Anthrax letter to come in he mail.

Interesting about Snyderman being an FOB. This explains a lot. These morning shows tend to traffic in tearful sympathy for various "victims", yet she was remarkably cool and restrained in her remarks, much more clinical than you would normally see, and as mentioned her only personal comment was critical of Rush. Could you elaborate on her FOB connection?

Here's what I found about Dr. Snyderman, from Media Research Center. Guess who was the lawyer who handled her divorce? Hillary Clinton!!!!

"A small world. Hillary Clinton handled the 1988 divorce for ABC's Nancy Snyderman, the ABC News medical correspondent and frequent fill-in host for Good Morning America revealed Monday morning on the show in an interview about her new book, Necessary Journeys.

MRC analyst Jessica Anderson caught the revelation on the May 1 Good Morning America. After talking about her discovery in 1988 that her second husband had squandered their money and that he was cheating on her, this exchange occurred between Dr. Nancy Snyderman and Charles Gibson:

Snyderman "So I spent a very restless night and then I did what I think lot of young women do the next morning: I called mom."

Charles Gibson: "Who said?"

Snyderman: "Who said...go down to bank and get safe deposit box. If there are things you need to know, they're always in safe deposit boxes."

Gibson: "And you found a string of unpaid bills, tax liens, everything else."

Snyderman: "Former lives. I dumped that safe deposit box into a cardboard box and called a very good friend of mine, Connie Failles [sp?] in Little Rock and said, 'I'm in trouble and I think need an attorney and I don't know what to do.'"

Gibson: "Who was your divorce lawyer?"
Snyderman: "Hillary Clinton."
Gibson: "What did she say to you about a philandering husband?"

Snyderman avoided the implication: "Well, that's a great question. Life was so complicated at that time. One of the funniest things was Connie called Hillary and said, 'Nancy's in trouble. We need to find the best divorce attorney in town. Who is that?' And Hillary said, 'I am.' [laughs] And you know what? She's a great attorney. And she said bring down everything. She sat me down with one of her partners who did tax law and this man, as I walked in with this box of stuff from the IRS and unpaid bills and accounts I didn't know existed, he sort of developed this very sweet smile and I said, 'Are you smiling at me because I'm stupid?' He said, 'No, I'm smiling at you because if I had a dime for every woman who's walked into my office in circumstances like this, I'd be a millionaire.' And with that, the legality of dealing with the IRS and unpaid bills and Hillary helping me start to separate myself from this, it wasn't just a husband with another life, it was a series of layers of things."

As noted in the February 27, 1997 CyberAlert, Snyderman was amongst the 831 people the Clinton administration listed as overnight White House guests during its first term.
