A woman allegedly on the plane phoned WLS (AM890) and said a deranged guy rushed the cockpit, passengers got the guy and all was well.

My nerves are gonna be shot by the time all this is over with. I think I'll go get my hair done and pretend I'm a sheeple.

An unruley
passenger, apparently.
One who'll be going straight to the slammer, I dare say dressed in S&W's finest wrist & ankle jewelry.
This one's gonna regret this antic.

Passenger attempts to storm cockpit
Two F-16s scrambled to the plane, creating a sonic boom as they broke sound barrier. Some of the northwest suburbs heard that noise, which sounded like two large explosions.
"I heard a huge, gigantic boom," said Sherry, who lives in Barrington and was obviously shaken by the noise.
"I had no idea what I was supposed to do with six kids," she said, her voice shaking.
The pilot called in a passenger disturbance when someone began banging on the 767's cockpit door. Airline officials now say that the passenger is a young man who is mentally disabled. Officials say the young man apparently just wanted to go inside the cockpit since he had been allowed inside another plane's cockpit before.
The FBI says it is possible that no charges will be filed in the case.
The F-16s escorted the plane into the airport.

If it was a Southwest Airlines jet, they would have killed him. That was tacky, but a hopped up passenger a year or two or three back tried to break into the cockpit of a SWA jet and the passengers killed him. I have a feeling this will be the wave of the future.
Even if the pilots don't shoot them, the would-be hijackers will have a hard time staying alive.
And if this was some loner lunatic, Drudge needs to knock that crap off, he's as bad as the other sites in feeding people's paranoia.

'passengers got the guy'
Even if he was some deranged guy (as if the hijackers on 9/11 weren't) these passengers showed some real courage. Hat's off!

Drudge has been slow on a lot of news items recently.
They don't show up on his site until 3 or 4 hours later...making them "old news."
FR seems to have the most current updates available.
I get the impression a lot of us net-nerds are really watching...
and that's a good thing in these uncertain times.

Excuse the cynicism -- these were brave passengers -- but bravery does come a little easier when the alternative is to be shot down in flames by F-16s.
Arm pilots!
