I've had a love/hate relationship with Rush for years, but this news is heartbreaking. My thoughts exactly. Wow. I pray he finds the strength to deal with what lies ahead.
To: SlickWillard
Very sad. He's a great American.

My mother and I sensed something was wrong for some time. We've been praying for you for months already, especially her.
I'm not going to add to the clog in your email file which is about to hit record highs I'm sure. In case you are reading this, I was tempted to offer you some optimistic words. But you are a positive person. And I'm confident you will give yourself optimistic words. I love my hearing too and would hate to lose it. I love music too. It must really hurt.
Please forgive someone who roughly bashed you years ago. Lately, I've been defending you and your right to 'vacations'. I'm glad I did.

I cannot see the man continuing in his duties and this will be the greatest loss to our movement I can imagine. This is devastating news, Laz. What -- or where -- would talk radio be today were it not for Rush?

I am losing my hearing too. It happens, sometimes genetic. Rush is about my age. There are Cochlear implants that work in some cases. He said it was NOT genetic, but he said he keep the reasons to himself (for now). He did talk about cochlear implants being the final option, that perhaps may be concidered down the road.
I am stunned.
Rush Limbaugh, King of Talk Radio. Deaf, and still he's the best!

Happened to me. There are many causes; not all are well-understood. Poor guy. Hope his case reverses.
To: SlickWillard
Awful, awful news. My prayers out to Rush.

"After reading this thread and the previous thread, I got to thinking that maybe Rush's HEARING is going bad. It is not uncommon for radio announcers to crank up the volume on the headphones to the point of hearing damage." 49 Posted on 09/26/2001 08:26:33 PDT by staffwriter

I'm really thankful for the updates from you all -- KFI here in California has been running the DoD press conference and we missed the whole explanation.
To: Republican Wildcat
He probably wouldn't have announced it if there were something that could be done to prevent it.
I can't even imagine what it would be like to be deaf. I hope I never find out.
Did he say what was causing it, and if it were reversable? Nerve damage? Infection? Genetic? Bone disease (Meniere's Disease??) Middle Ear infection? Excess noise nerve damage (from his rock N roll radio days)?
I don't ALWAYS agree with Rush, but I enjoy listening to him. I have a great deal of respect for him. He IS usually right...more so than I am. We all need to send up a prayer for him. At least to keep the hearing he still has.

Maher thanked Rush for his support of him last week.
To: Real Rush
Praying for a miracle, buddy!

NEW TAG LINE: "Fighting liberals with both ears tied behind his back, just to make it fair."

You can't keep a good man down. So don't try it on a great man. There is a way! (Kudos to the Red River Rats)

Al Franken is probably brewing the idea for a new book as we speak. I can see the title now: Rush Limbaugh Is A Big, Fat, DEAF Idiot. His intellect is surpassed only by his creativity, you know. Betcha a dollar that venomous liberals around the nation are having a good chuckle. Laugh it up while you can, guys, because this WILL NOT keep Rush down.
To: SlickWillard
Huh?
Mike Savage made Rush obsolete years ago anyway.
To: SlickWillard
I know someone who has the cochlear implant that Rush referred to. She is able to teach classes and conduct normal conversations, and even talk on the phone (don't ask me how, she just can). The only awkwardness is that she has to be facing you to hear you. She is actually one of the better instructors in our group. If you're going to visit her, you have to call and tell her you're coming, because she won't hear the knock at the door; I think she has some kind of light mechnanism that informs her when the phone is ringing.
It's not at all time to push the panic button, but I am certainly praying for Rush, and for our country, that he is able to carry on.

I don't think people were "bitching" about his voice change, as much as wondering why his voice was changing. No, there have been threads here in the past 6 months with people absolutlely ripping him apart for "changing" his voice, for some unknown reason. Something like "he sounds like an idiot, trying to imiatate Buckley, I'm never listening to him again". Check out this thread, the comments are rather mild, but ir give you an indication of what people say.
And that doesn't even get into the vitriol some have shown over his "vacations".
