He had been hinting for several months that he had some sort of health problem.

You can send him a note here:

I cannot believe these people on DU. They are REVELING in Rush's deafness. I don't care how much I hate a person's politics, I would never DELIGHT in their suffering. They keep saying how this is "karma" for Rush being a "reprehensible person". I only hope that liberals receive as much "compassion" from others when they get sick, too.

A doctor here in Oklahoma City just got FDA approval for some type of ear implant that is suppose to be different then other implants. Is it the same one you have or is it totally new.

Prayers for you, Rush, that you overcome this and continue with your radio show.

"My mother and I sensed something was wrong for some time."

I noticed that he was getting callers all wrong. He would take a call and then reply in a manner that was way off from what the caller was saying. And I would think, "Where did Rush get that? He wasn't listening, at all, to what that caller was trying to say.", and it was true.

A couple times when he was going the wrong way with a call, he would suddenly stop(as if tipped off) and with frustrated "huffs" in his speech and just cut to a break.

I thought he was just out of touch and stopped listening to him about a month ago. Now I know why he was getting things wrong. He must be reading what the callers are saying and without the tone and inflection, he is losing something in the translation.

We did too. But I didn't want to discourage Rush from tyring to keep going. So I didn't write that specifically. However, you are right to point that out. He must face this problem head-on.

The bright side is something Rush would hate. He will have massive sympathy pouring out his ears. It will be enormous. He has no idea how much the nation loves him. He soon will. And that outpouring of support can actually put him in place to be more successful than ever. He can be the Beethoven of Talk Radio.

The deaf have an amazing tool now, the auto-transcriber. I am not sure if it is instantaneous, but it will be instantaneous soon, I am sure. He can read what they are saying, hopefully as fast as they say it. The challenge will be that sarcasm in tone would be missed. A human would be needed to determine if there is sarcasm in the tone and possibly signal him. Emotion level can be detected with a volume monitor. It will not be easy to have things exactly as they are. But just as the nation changed, and it seemed to be changing for the worse, now EIV must change, and in the long run, it can be better than ever.

I don't know how you can miss my point. Once, again, YOU said --

I bet all the vile people who have been bitching incessantly about his "voice change", or how many vacation days he's been taking recently feel pretty good about themselves right about now.

Let me re-phrase my response. How do you suppose the "vile people" who derided those concerned about Rush's voice, by telling them they were hearing things and were seminar-posters and so forth, are feeling? Are they feeling pretty good about themselves? (I remind you as well that Rush himself mocked such people, told them they had to have their radio's checked, have their "disgronificators" replaced, were nuts-o.)

Me, I'm sorry to have been right. I'd said he sounded to me like an old man in some degree of pain, rather than the robust, fulsome voice that had caught my attention in '89. I knew I wasn't hearing things. I just thought it was a matter of diet, or maybe not maintaining his voice, or too many cigars, or something. Big fan of 12 years-and-counting that I am, I'm sorry as heck that he's lost his hearing. I hope God turns it for good for him.

Dan

In the future, The Rush Limbaugh show will be better than ever.

That's the kind of guy Rush is and with current technology he won't miss a beat.

I wish him the best !

My post was a response to Hatteras, for his posting of "What?!" at post #9.
I find that a funny response to hearing related statements/headlines.
It's a 'private joke' between my wife and I due to my own hearing problems.
I have great sympathy for Rush, I was among his earliest supporters. I called our local radio station to get them to air his show when they hadn't even heard of him. (You can figure how long ago that was)
Again, my reply was for the poster 'Hatteras".
Not you.
Not Rush, nor his problem.

Your inability to discern to whom posts are directed demonstrates your focus impairment.
But your clever and witty response does you proud.
Sh--head.

Do you suppose it's possible to find a way to apply the closed-captioning technology that many hard-of-hearing and deaf people use to watch TV to teh telephone? That way he could continue to take phone calls, and it would be a boon to deaf people in general.

Guess I "rushed" to judgement. My apology to you.

Thanks for the courtesy of your explanation because I couldn't imagine how anyone on FR could be so insensitive and unappreciative of what Rush has done for conservatism that they would LOL at his deafness.

Your Freeper profile shows it all.

It's blank.

The ficticious James Bond had balls. You're a vacuous coward.

BTW, why have you remained around FR since 1998?

Are you another "Ash", or the same nit-wit, under a different name?

Captain, your above 134 nails it!

Rush is the real deal. He is the personification in the definition of "Intrepid."

The "Big Guy" is not going away. The leftist-socialist, American-hating nit-wits, still have mucho more to hear from El'Rushbo!

The EIB will continue to be Everywhere!

"Guess I "rushed" to judgement."

Well, thank you Dixielander for the courtesy of your apology, but not necessary.
I too would find LOL at the revelation of such a problem very unacceptable.
I am sorry for any offense I inadvertantly caused you.
But I thank you again for being civil in your response.
I am sorry to see so much uncivility, rude and unpleasant comment here when it is uncalled for.
Good manners reflects well on all of us.
A punch in the face shouldn't be the first response among friends.
(Maybe the second, but not the first...)

Since I was responding to your reply/post #6 which had nothing to do with what you said other than being used as an entry for as stupid a statement as I have ever written or probably spoken, I want to say I am deeply and embarrassingly sorry for my unfeeling statement that had no place on this subject, forum or even in the company of intelligent people discussing a heartbreaking subject and for this I offer my sincere apology to all who were deeply offended I'm sure and rightly so and in particular to my very muchly loved Rush!

Thanks for the opportunity to say all the above, even as disconnected as it sounds!!
