If you can continue to broadcast, we will continue to listen, no matter how your voice sounds! We're not giving up on you, Rush.

"Now we will see who the compassionate Americans are. We will see the peace and love Liberals gleefully welcome this news. Mark my words."

Agreed.

For about five years (post alzheimers) I had the privelege of doing some work in President Reagan's private office a few times a month.

Without fail, ALL of my Democrat friends would make a nasty remark about him when the learned what I was doing.

We should keep this in mind, should ill health ever befall the Clintons. I'm no fan of theirs, but this should be a cautionary tale for us on this side of the fence not to sink the the level of the leftists.

My thoughts are with El Rushbo.

With all due respect, those people didn't lie, and Rush did. He said he was taking vacations, and he hid the fact that he was seeing doctors. He lied. Whatever his motive -- pride, independence, whatever -- he apparently held that value above the bond of trust with his audience. He lied.

Oh please! Had Limbaugh told you the real reason for his absences, you'd be screaming about him "looking for sympathy". Quit being so shallow. It has nothing to do with the reasons for the days off, and everything to do with people using any reason to dump on him.

If he had said he was taking time off for "personal reasons", you'd still have been all over him. Give your hate for Limbaugh a rest for at least one day.

My mother taught me not to throw all my stuff in the street; personal is personal. A white lie is allowed in polite company until the time is right to bare one's soul. It is, however, unforgivable to be snide about human problems that are beyond one's control. Just a thought. Dancer

Funny thing is, despite all the ongoing complaints about the change in his voice, today was the first I noticed it. As soon as he started the show, I thought "hey, he does sound different today."

I dunno.... "looking for a way out" doesn't seem like his style. I'd be floored if this is some sort of publicity stunt. I really don't think Rush would stoop to it.

You asked: "Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?...." Well no...but then the Germans never bombed Pearl Harbor.

Rush did like to memic the voices of people - from W F Buckley, John McCain, Der Schlickmeister and many others...I thought he did it very well...that's over.

Trying to read Voice Recognition print-outs to converse with callers will be iffy at best.

There will be many other handicaps.

My guess is he quits before the quality of his show suffers too much.

But then again - maybe some treatment will solve the hearing loss. Still I doubt that he has told the whole story.

There's also 'idiopathic', meaning that the docs haven't a clue why the patient lost his hearing. Attributing to a virus would be very, very difficult. It would entail finding evidence of the virus (probably DNA) in the vestibulocochlear nerve (the 8th cranial nerve). Even then, saying that the presence of the virus means that the virus caused the hearing loss is a leap of logic. It's awfully hard to prove.

I cannot see the man continuing in his duties . . .
Total BS. Don't make the mistake of imagining what you think your limitations would be if you were hearing impaired.

Rush can still read.
Rush can still think.
Rush can still analyze.
Rush can still speak.
Rush can still present the best show ever on radio.

Rush would hate it if we treated him like a victim.

After all...even Beethoven was totally deaf.

OMG - what would cause something like this?

It sometimes happens for almost no reason at all. Tommy Thompson had the same thing happen a couple of years ago when he was our gov. He woke up one morning and had lost nearly all of his hearing in one ear. I don't think it had any effect on the other ear, and he's just had to live with it.

Because Rush could not hear his own voice, he may not have been lying when he said his voice was the same. There apparantly is nothing wrong with his vocal cords.

But I too noticed the change in his voice and was disturbed by it. It sometimes sounded like he was parodying himself. This announcement today clarifies the problem, and I expect that he'll try to carry on. I hope so, anyway.

It's not just his left ear. He said it started with his left ear. He now can't hear out of either. He says he can't hear ANY radio or TV and can't even hear himself speak.

You've always been obsolete. F*** off.

I prefer..."I fart in your general direction"(with requisite outrageous French accent)

Oh for pete's sake! I can't believe there are people criticizing Rush for "lying" about his whereabouts -- as if he was obligated to tell them where he was at all! Whether he was at the doctor, the golf course, or sitting home eating bonbons watching Oprah, that's his business. The perks of being your own boss.
