Rush Limbaugh show ^ | bosco

Listening to Rush today, his voice sounds in a little higher register than in previous weeks and months. Anyone else notice?

Yep. What's he talking about -- soul searching? I wonder if he's sick?

He said that last week, when he was gone, the explanation was that he was on vacation, but he says today that he was not on vacation, and that he wishes he had been on vacation.

I think it's going to get interesting today.

Cigar smoking DOES have some nasty side effects on the soft palate.

In the words of Arnold...I hope "it's not a toooma!"

"To be honest it almost sounds distorted at times."

Back during the debate over "Rush's voice sounds deeper," I listened in, as an old broadcaster, and had two observations.

1. The audio chain (all the gear from the microphone on down the line) sounded less clean than usual. The technical quality of Rush's feed has always been quite good. It didn't sound so good the day I checked. And

2. I think he's a little too proud of his Wm. F. Buckley impersonation and unconsciously slips into some of its pronunciation from time to time. It definitely WAS annoying.

Any time a ball player signs a ~ $ 100 million + contract they always say..."it's not about the money...it's about respect."

If you're a non-ball play and sign $ 100 million + contract .......I guess you say ....."I'm doing some soul searching...." And if you're a Peter Jenning or Dan Blather that sould searching starts one's travel down the Guilt Road such that you blame America for everything....

He started off by stating that he wasn't on vacation like we had been told. He said he wished it was a vacation. He had planned to take the whole first hour to discuss this, but then Sunday's bombing started and he will talk about his personal issues later. Somethings up with him, that's for sure.

Vocal pitch and speed: It has previously been established that some big markets do real-time time compression on Rush's show in order to have a greater amount of time each hour to sell for local ads. Sometimes this results in audible artifacts. It can sound like a slight garble. If someone doing it doesn't watch which knobs he's tweaking, it can result in a higher pitch, though both pitch and duration can be adjusted separately. Today both the speed and the pitch seem to be bumped up.

In looking through reviews on vocal pathologies, I have not yet located one that describes a shift to a higher pitch.

Rush said he'll talk about the past week later in his first hour. He did say that he was NOT on vacation last week (and wished he was...).

He's a capitalist. Why should he feel guilty about that?
