The Brady Boomers - The 'Tween Generation

Posted on 10/05/2001 2:36:58 PM PDT by WIMom

Most who were born at the tail end of the baby boom

- 1956 to 1964 or the beginning of GenX - 1965 to 1970 -

feel we are not part of those generations.

Therefore, it has been decided, we will be forever know as

THE BRADY BOOMERS

  1. We were too young to serve in Vietnam, but remember the news.

  2. As far as we're concerned, the music, television and popular entertainment and heroes of the 60s were and still are a matter for personal taste, and don't represent the shining apex of all civilization, icons to be revered by generations to come - in short, the Beatles were just a band that some might not like, and old Trek was cheesy and not well written.

  3. Old boomers came into adulthood at while we were playing with Barbies or G.I. Joes.

  4. Our clothes and music tended to be lighthearted, and we are more conservative/libertarian as a whole than the older boomers.

  5. And of course, we faithfully watched The Brady Bunch every Friday night.

BRADY TRIVIA

  1. How many rooms were in the Brady Bunch's home?
  2. What was Carol's nickname?
  3. What was Mike's occupation?
  4. How many kids were auditioned for the cast of the tv show?
  5. In one episode, Bobby lied about knowing a pro football player. Who?
  6. Where did the back door in the kitchen lead to?
  7. Name the Elementary, Jr. High & High Schools that the kids attended
  8. How much did Greg's first car cost?
  9. What was the name of the family's pet sheepdog?
  10. What was the name of the rarely seen next door neighbors on the tv show?
  11. Which Little House on the Prairie cast member appeared on the Brady Bunch?
  12. What item in the back yard was never used once throughout the series?

Post your memories of tunes, movies, shows, fashions, school stuff, or anything from OUR generations! And remember, have fun!

Whew! I thought you were going to say that "Nanny and the Professor sucked too.

ps. MASH was CBS, and Dick Newhat's name was Bob.

I, too, just had the 21st anniversary of my 21st birthday -- July 23, 1959 -- along with my wonderful husband -- May 10, 1959. We are a GREAT group of Americans -- conversative libertarians who hated the counter-culture hippies. We should be proud!

Arg, you got me! It was Bob! I forgot about the 'Hi, Bob' game, too!

And I loved the original Star Trek - when I got to stay up and watch it. The others all sucked - too many bad writers - you'd think that they left their phasers back as the starbase.

Hi WIMom,
LOL
Whilst woking with you on the fund raiser threads.......
I must confess that I had no idea you are so young :)
Btw, I'm not a Boomer either..... I was born before the "Boomer" generation..... way before. LOL
If you ever want to hear about what the first Televisions looked like (I saw my first TV in 1948) Etc.
THen I'm your man.
I'm kind of a "Tween Generation" too. Just a tad too young for WWII. I served My Country in the Armed Services though. (Heck, We all did back then....there was a thing called the draft. LOL)
I've been looking at some the your threads and I must say, I'm impressed. I had no idea the ages of some of the screen names I have seen at FR all along. As an older gentleman, I must say it is an honor to be in the company of such fine younger people as yourselves.
Take care J

God Bless

When I was 11 or 12, I met Gary Puckett of Gary Puckett and the Union Gap here in Ohio. Friends across the street had a cousin in California who was dating him, and he came along for a visit.

How many rooms were in the Brady Bunch's home? Does the living room/Dining room count as one room or two? 10. 11 if you count the attic which was turned into Greg's room later on in the series.

What was Carol's nickname? Twinkles. (from the episode where she gets a visit from an old high school flame and football hero named "Tank")

What was Mike's occupation? Architect (oh man, try a hard question! :-))

How many kids were auditioned for the cast of the tv show? Including the ones who were eventually picked? 464 I believe.

In one episode, Bobby lied about knowing a pro football player. Who? Joe Namath. He lied to his friends about knowing him. In order to get Namath to come to his house, Cindy wrote a phony letter stating that Bobby was very sick and wanted to meet him.

Where did the back door in the kitchen lead to? This is kinda hard because I don't know which answer you are looking for, but there are three places it leads to...the rear entrance door, Alices room and the laundry room. (the laundry room was seen in more episodes than Alices room.)

Name the Elementary, Jr. High & High Schools that the kids attended Elementary: Clinton Avenure elementary. Jr. High is fillmore Jr. and the high school is Westdale high (where Marcia and Greg went)

How much did Greg's first car cost? 100 dollars. A beat up picece of junk (but now a 1950's collectible car!). He bought it from his friend, played by actor Charles Martin Smith better known as "Toad" from the movie American Graffitti. This is the classic episode where Mike utters the words "Caveat Emptor" (Latin for buyer beware)

What was the name of the family's pet sheepdog? Tiger. And he WASN'T a sheepdog. He was more of a terrier mix.

What was the name of the rarely seen next door neighbors on the tv show? The dittmayers (I believe this is the proper way to spell it) Pronounced : Dit Myers.

Which Little House on the Prairie cast member appeared on the Brady Bunch? Melissa Sue Anderson. (Her character name was Millicent) She gave Bobby his first kiss and he saw skyrockets.

What item in the back yard was never used once throughout the series? I THINK you are refering to the brick barbeque, BUT that answer would be wrong because it WAS used at least once in the series. Alice cooked some burgers on it. (They used dry ice to simulate the smoke.) And in another episode Mike cleaned it off in preaparation of having guests over. Whoever gave you that answer, really doesn't know his/her Brady trivia.

I remember, when I was 12, our family sitting at the dinner table on election night. We asked our Mom, "Who did you vote for?" "Humphrey," was her reply. My Dad's response was, "Nixon." LOL. I am a conservative GOPer with a definite independent streak, along the lines of Steve Forbes, for whom I was a delegate for the Ohio 13th Congressional District.
