The Brady Boomers - The 'Tween Generation

Posted on 10/05/2001 2:36:58 PM PDT by WIMom

Most who were born at the tail end of the baby boom

- 1956 to 1964 or the beginning of GenX - 1965 to 1970 -

feel we are not part of those generations.

Therefore, it has been decided, we will be forever know as

THE BRADY BOOMERS

  1. We were too young to serve in Vietnam, but remember the news.

  2. As far as we're concerned, the music, television and popular entertainment and heroes of the 60s were and still are a matter for personal taste, and don't represent the shining apex of all civilization, icons to be revered by generations to come - in short, the Beatles were just a band that some might not like, and old Trek was cheesy and not well written.

  3. Old boomers came into adulthood at while we were playing with Barbies or G.I. Joes.

  4. Our clothes and music tended to be lighthearted, and we are more conservative/libertarian as a whole than the older boomers.

  5. And of course, we faithfully watched The Brady Bunch every Friday night.

BRADY TRIVIA

  1. How many rooms were in the Brady Bunch's home?
  2. What was Carol's nickname?
  3. What was Mike's occupation?
  4. How many kids were auditioned for the cast of the tv show?
  5. In one episode, Bobby lied about knowing a pro football player. Who?
  6. Where did the back door in the kitchen lead to?
  7. Name the Elementary, Jr. High & High Schools that the kids attended
  8. How much did Greg's first car cost?
  9. What was the name of the family's pet sheepdog?
  10. What was the name of the rarely seen next door neighbors on the tv show?
  11. Which Little House on the Prairie cast member appeared on the Brady Bunch?
  12. What item in the back yard was never used once throughout the series?

Post your memories of tunes, movies, shows, fashions, school stuff, or anything from OUR generations! And remember, have fun!

Or was that a Mark Hamill haircut? The start of Unisex hair styling. Ugh. I'd like to burn all the pictures of me with my hair over my ears. What were people thinking?

Here's a suggestion:

I was born on Flag Day in '61, and this year I celebrated the 1st Anniversary of my 39th birthday.

Where did the back door in the kitchen lead to?

Didn't it lead to the porch outside? The one that Marsha had just walked out of when she got hit in the nose by a football?

"I'd like to burn all the pictures of me with my hair over my ears. What were people thinking?

Here's the story... of an adolescence
With all the boys afraid to show their ears
So they grew their hair long, parted in the middle
Like girls had done for years.

I AM a boomer (not proud of it, just a fact). My wife was born in 1962, and I always felt that you couldn't be a real boomer unless you were an adolescent when the Beatles came to America. If you missed out on that event as an adolescent experience, then you really can never get the whole boomer thing (which was great, until the commies took it over and ruined it in tha late '60s, like they ruined everything else they ever touched).

Anyway, I'm glad someone finally came up with a term that fits my wife's generation. (Personally, I don't think I ever watched ONE Brady Bunch episode).

I was in seventh grade when Kennedy was assassinated. Sitting in class in Saint Anthony of Padua Elementary School in East Northport, New York.

I remember the PA system tuned into a radio station as it was broadcasting.

Monica's mom always said, "Don't play with the balls in the White House!"

(Oooooohhh, my nose! Ooooohhh, my nose!")

I was hanging out in the womb when Kennedy was killed. Remember it like it was yesterday.

The night I was born, the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan. Remember that too.

I actually do remember the moon walks. Not the first one, but a couple from around 1970-71. Watched them on a big, lousy television in Catholic school, just hoping that Sister Catherine wouldn't think of any reason to smack me.

Somebody has to say it:

The Brady's sucked!
The Partridges sucked!
Little House sucked!
Mash (the TV show) sucked!
Happy Days sucked!
All of those other ABC sitcoms sucked too!

Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Newhart, Sanford and Son were all written much better.

So there, take that!

"What A Fool Believes" was their big 1979 hit.

They also had a major hit with "Taking It To The Streets" along with about a dozen other hits.

I was sad when Sonny and Cher announced they were getting a divorce. Now I'm glad for Sonny's sake. :)
