September 11, 2001 changed the American way of life possibly forever. We are no longer protected by the vast expanses of ocean - the barbarians are within our own gates. We have been been given a very large, ugly dose of reality and find ourselves in an unfamiliar and vulnerable position. We find ourselves having to defend our families, homes, and freedom on our own soil.
Because of the events of 9/11, homeland security (civil defense) has now become our country's top priority. This thread is to provide a central location for opportunities to assist in our mutual defense. Feel free to post any public information that would support in this effort.
Although the creation of a new federal cabinet post and bureaucracy is a debatable action, please do not use this thread to argue the merits of that issue.

"GET REAL! Ain't gonna happen!"
Two words = Executive Order
One was signed last week to lift weapons sanctions against Jordan and some other country.

Lacking a definitive RULING by the USSC (US Supreme Court) on this specific issue....your point is invalid. Past holdings tend to support your theory (which I too subscribe to--but I'm also a realist, which is not your strong suit) but nothing since 1935 which we technically lost in the US v Miller case. The 2nd Amendment (don't quote it to me...I have it memorized and I teach Honors American Government) is still open to interpretation by the states and the USSC has not yet struck down any of the blatantly unconstitutional gun laws passed in the last 50 years based on YOUR interpretation of the Amendment. I'll say it again: GET REAL and deal with the issue based on the paradigm of the current playing field.
I'll say this: If the next terrorist attack is aborted by a LAWFULLY armed citizen, the paradigm will take a dramatic shift back to the vision of the Founding Fathers.

~SIGH~ One thing about beating your head against a concrete wall (like continuing this stupid debate with you) is that it feels SO good when you stop. I herewith stop.

Glad you came to your senses and are willing to understand the 2nd amendment the way it was written,
not the way Congress "thinks" it was meant to be.
I knew with your background you just needed a push in the right direction.
Always remember those who wish to control "We the People" by making unconstitutional laws
are the same ones who indirectly helped make Sept 11 just a tragic event.
Anyone who cannot understand that concept would sure understand it if they had the
Taliban in their neighborhood for a few days.
Oh by the way I take it you have never been in any Communist run countries. I have, Cuba and Viet Nam.
What a difference the Constitution does make.

I was in EAST GERMANY during the height of the COLD WAR; long before the wall came down. DO NOT ASSUME things about me. I was also in Nicaragua during the Sandinista attempts to take over the country the first time they tried it.
We were never is disagreement, you and I. I'm just more REALISTIC about the chances of a more liberal intrepretation on the 2nd Amendment coming from this USSC or any of the anti-gun states.

You're very welcome. To set an example, I joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary. I encourage all to look toward Homeland Defence and what they can do to assist. Thank you for bumping this thread and on yours and Billie's USO thread (very cute).

Director Ridge sent personal orders to ANavyVet. I am sure you got your personal orders as well, OneidaM. I am reading my orders right now, but I'm not telling anyone what they are.
To: Miss Marple
Well, I DID get my orders MM, but not only was I told not to tell anyone what was in those orders, I was also ordered not to tell anyone I got my order.

It will be interesting to see if Mr. Ridge incorporates the above civilian organizations into his overall gameplan. Since the Coast Guard Auxiliary is officially sanctioned and directed by the CG (now under DOD), I suspect there will be notable civilian interaction with fed and local authorities.

The 2nd Amendment
IS my CCW!
No state or federal agency can lawfully mitigate that right. They get away with it not because we respect their legitimacy in the matter , but because we fear their power to deprive us of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They have trumped our right by overwhelming force, trampling on The Constitution as they do it.
Now, the reality is; whether or not on wishes to risk arrest and imprisonment for the sake of Constitutional principle. Most folks would rather not be hauled way in irons. So, maybe we should continue to approach this incrementally. Piece by piece, until we recoup what we have lost.
That's not to say that I won't make discreet arrangements for my defense and the defense of family and country. I won't let pieces of paper stop me from self protection.

I think A Navy Vet is perhaps helping Tom Ridge and is ahead of the curve.
