BCM went in and came out a hero. My prayers go out to his family, fellow firefighters and his many friends.
Thanks, AppyPappy for doing the research on this sad tragedy.

I can see why that speech inspired him. That one quote is something, but there are other great passages in the entire speech (link at reply #44) that would fill up a couple of long threads.

They don't call them NYC'S Bravest for nothing.
These are amazing men who fight extremely dangerous fires in multistory buildings on a daily basis.
Even before September 11, anywhere from 1-4 or more per year would perish in the course of his duties.
Some of them are on the arson squad and carry weapons, chasing down arsonists and occasionally getting into gun battles with them.
God bless the NYC Fire Department, the only City institution that all New Yorkers have always respected and admired.

I knew it had to catch up to FReeRepublic,,,sooner or later..there were just too many.First Chief and now this. I've spent most of the day in tears.
My prayers go out to his family, may they find comfort and peace in these terrible times.

This is overwhelming in here today. I can't imagine what their families are going through now.
God grant them serenity. God rest your souls, Chief Negotiator and BCM.

Oh no.
BCM, one of New York's Bravest.
When I was Chief of a small volunteer fire company, we toured the FDNY.
I swore that, when they opened their shirts, there was a red "S" on their chests.
I have lost a brother.
Prayers to God: Please comfort BCM's family. BCM is at rest in a perfect place.
To: Dog
There are just no words left to express the sorrow of this day. We have lost a brave Marine with CHIEF Negotiator and New York's Bravest with BCM. Bless these men and their families. May we honor their memory by living our lives with the memory of the bravery of these fellow fallen Freepers.
To: AppyPappy
BCM died doing his duty, like a soldier, with his Fire Boots on! Fighting just like a soldier in the line of Fire. He is an inspiration to us all, and we will press on against those who do us harm. We are a band of brothers. September 11th everything changed.
