After a lifetime in which he cheated it many times, death caught up with Rick Rescorla halfway up the south tower of the World Trade Center.

This is a bump for an American hero. Thanks for posting this. All Americans should read the story of this man.

WOW, what a very Powerful Primetime tribute to Rick. It was just incredible!! This is the kind of guy that anyone would just be proud to say, "I knew him". I am soo sorry for his family & their loss. His lifetime accomplishments will certainly be remembered. Are you the guy that was hanging onto his 6 foot cord always/his radioman? If so, I am also very sorry for your loss as well. What a lifetime friend you must have lost. Remember...time will heal your wound/s. I too in the past year have lost 3 family members, & for someone to say that, is hard to swallow. You will never forget him & all the memories you had. Maybe, thats a "Good Thing"? My Deepest Sympathies to "Anyone who was a part of Rick's life." Again, I must say, that was a "Outstanding" Tribute. If you know his wife "Susan", tell her how much this show moved me, as I'm sure thousands of viewers. Janet

No, I never knew him. I read the book "We Were Soldiers Once, And Young" as a young officer and was in total awe. I dusted it off and reread it after I read the posted article in Army Times. He is an American Hero. As a nation, we are richer because he once walked among us.

When Rescorla showed up for Basic Training at Benning in 1963, hed already seen more
adventure than most soldiers do in a lifetime.
"most soldiers" should have simply said "most mortal beings".
That's the aspect of Rescorla's life that caught me. The guy got more than a few
"lifetimes" crammed into his span on this Earth.

...We were stunned at our IA DRANG Alumni Dinner last Veterans Day Weekend to see a Video Tape of a TV Interview, also seen two weeks ago on ..'Dateline NBC'.., where RICK RESCORLA actually predicts his future death at the World Trade Center.

RICK RESCORLA actually predicts his future death at the World Trade Center.
Yes, the way he (and that friend of his, Hall?) had figured out that any
attacks subsequent to the 1993 attack would be done was pretty chilling.
All I can say is that Rescorla "saw the bullet coming" and didn't flinch.
Oh, and if I understood correctly, wasn't Rescorla not even suppossed to be working at that
time, but had traded vacation times with some subordinate?
If true, I suspect "the other fellow" has had a bit of soul-searching as well.

...You are right on about ..RICK RESCORLA.. chosing to bite the bullet that he knew was coming his way. His subordinate that he told to go ahead with his vacation, I believe, was going on vacation to get married.

'British-born ..RICK RESCORLA.. was a hero of the IA DRANG and both terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center'
...Major ..ROBERT L. BATEMAN.. has also just published an outstanding Book titled:
'NO RUN RI: A History of the Korean War Incident' (Stackpole Books, April 2002)

Looks like a good book that you've given us a heads-up on.
But interested lurkers/posters should be advised that if searching www.amazon.com
for the book, use the author name of "Robert Bateman" for searching (I think the book
showed up something like 6th in a list).
Author term "Robert L. Bateman" returns a list without the book...

Sunday bump to you, ALOHA RONNIE.
And a request, if you can easily help.
You alerted the forum to Bateman's book of NO GUN RI.
I thought you said that Joe Galloway also had published an article (or some other work)
that seriously (if not totally) undermined the atrocity claims that had been made in the press
about the incident.
If my memory is not defective, could you post Galloway's work or a link to it?
(And if my memory is defective on this matter...my apologies in advance.)
Cheers -- VOA
And, maybe for an added assist (at your convenience) could you point us to that
Saturday Evening Post article that Jack Smith wrote about his Vietnam experiences?
I'm kicking myself for not having copied that down when somebody (maybe you?) posted it
on freerepublic.com some time back.
