Last night, there was an anti baby boom thread that started with a rant, and before some disruptor trashed it, some of us who were born at the tail end of the baby boom - from 1956 to 1964 - were having some nice recollections. The things that we seem to have in common are the following:
1. We were too young to serve in Vietnam, but remember the news.
2. As far as we're concerned, the music, television and popular entertainment and heroes of the 60s were and still are a matter for personal taste, and don't represent the shining apex of all civilization, icons to be revered by generations to come - in short, the Beatles were just a band that some might not like, and old Trek was cheesy and not well written.
3. Old boomers came into adulthood at the ideal economic circumstance - we've had to work for ours.
4. Our clothes and music tended to be lighthearted, and we are more conservative/libertarian as a whole than the older boomers.
So post your memories of tunes, movies, shows, fashions, school stuff, etc.
And enjoy yourselves!
Thanks to one_particular_harbour for the fantastic idea!
I'm 5 years older than you and we couldn't wear pants to school till 7th grade and that was after circulating a petition. We also couldn't wear jeans and I definitely remember having some elephant pants. Thought it was cool, though my father always feared I was going to trip over them and fall.
This is a fun thread- I could actually respond to many more posts than I have time to.
Lol! I believe you...my sister had one of those! It was very entertaining for me and my 3 three brothers.
It began as Phiso-Hex - it had hexocloropheene(sp?) in it - probably made us all reminisce in this way tonight . . . . :)
Getting my drivers license at 15.
"legal" drinking age of 18.
Going to the outside window of the local beer joint "for my mother" in between.
Boones Farm and the back seat of the car, or the front seat for that matter.
Hair checks for the boys and skirt checks for the girls using a RULER.
Taping the hand lettered sign that read "Gestapo Headquarters" to the School Office door.
Grassing the Principle's yard with an F250 pickup (can you say "mudders"?)
VW Vans.
Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album when it was new.
Alice Cooper when he was a one-of-a-kind.
Getting to see Kiss when they were a new band.
Wondering what Napolean Solo and Illya Kuriaken (sp?) were going to be up to THIS week. Even had the littl gun that shot the plastic BBs from that show. It came with a "silencer" and a shoulder stock. Don't get much cooler than that.
When James West was a WHITE man.
I'll leave it there so somebody else can get a few words in edgewise. Don't know how I ever survived it, but it was a HECK of a lotta fun.
Ruck
...and of course - there was Alan - Midge's boyfriend.
Ok, Fess up, what was the question??? lol
