POST BOOMERS/PRE X - finally, a thread just for us - Thread 5

Last night, there was an anti baby boom thread that started with a rant, and before some disruptor trashed it, some of us who were born at the tail end of the baby boom - from 1956 to 1964 - were having some nice recollections. The things that we seem to have in common are the following:

1. We were too young to serve in Vietnam, but remember the news.

2. As far as we're concerned, the music, television and popular entertainment and heroes of the 60s were and still are a matter for personal taste, and don't represent the shining apex of all civilization, icons to be revered by generations to come - in short, the Beatles were just a band that some might not like, and old Trek was cheesy and not well written.

3. Old boomers came into adulthood at the ideal economic circumstance - we've had to work for ours.

4. Our clothes and music tended to be lighthearted, and we are more conservative/libertarian as a whole than the older boomers.

So post your memories of tunes, movies, shows, fashions, school stuff, etc.

The Bozo show...my claim to fame is my mom ran our local Cub Scout pack and we got to go to a taping of Bozo in Grand Rapids (Dick Richards played him here).

My claim to fame is being one of Art Linkletter's kids! I was 6 years old, totally humiliated my parents with my answers to Art's "questions," and got a doll, a table and chairs and a pair of roller skates.

Can any of you remember the soap - Secret Storm? I used to watch it with my mom in the '60's.

I think my mother watched it too and it was my paternal grandfather's favorite soap.

I hear ya! The book was a HUNDRED times worse than the movie. I had nightmares for weeks.

I remember when I was quite a little girl - born in '57 - but I'm probably thinking about very early '60's. My mom bought me one of those white furry "mufflers" to match my winter coat. Did anyone else have one of those?

Yes, I have a "muff" - I think it's real rabbit fur - from back then. I still have it in my closet - can't imagine my daughter using it!

Also - do any of you remember - in the Barbie Doll family - Scooter (Barbie's cousin) AND Tutti?

I have a Skipper doll (Barbie's cousin) - and nobody believes me, but when you crank her arm she gets taller and *grows boobs!* I swear, it's true. :)

December 22 for me - What year? I was born in 58. I think I was the youngest one in my class. I didn't even turn 18 until six months after graduation.

Yeah, I remember that Brady episode - what a kick it was! Remember when they had the whaddayacallit - those cars that went over the park on wires, what was it called? People kept getting stuck in them. I miss the old KI.

I forgot all about the no pants for girls rule! We had to walk almost a mile and in MN in the winter it was cold. We could wear pants under our dresses, but had to take them off once we got to school and hang them on a hook in the hallway with our coats. On the last day of school the girls were allowed to wear "nice slacks", but the boys got to wear jeans for the last day. I still hate that word..."slacks".

LOL--I don't think my mom bought me an actual white, furry - MUFFLER!! :) - I must be getting a little slap happy.

I remember Scooter, but not Tutti. I coveted those furry little muffs for keeping hands warm, but mom & dad couldn't afford it. They had a string that went around your neck and hung down around waist level, if we're thinking of the same thing. I visited mom & dad recently and found mom had saved my purse and hats from going to church when I was just 6 or 7 - that really brought back the memories. Only thing missing were the white gloves and days-of-the-week underwear!

I fondly remember that somehow my mother scraped together the money to buy me a pair of white go-go boots when I was in grade school. I hate to think what she did without to make it possible for me. I thought I'd die if I didn't have those boots.

We wore pants under our dresses in Chicago too. But they had to come off when we got to school. I was on a "committee" in 7th grade that was part of determining the "dress code"... ie when we could wear pants..

We could wear "pant's suits" (no jeans - had to be coordinated top and pants) only during January and February OR if the predicted high temperature for the day was 15 degrees or under.. and this was in a PUBLIC school. 1970..

Well Back in the Day you had to like Marine Boy with his Boomerang, run joe run, isis, krofft superstars, banana splits, and if you werent listening to Mighty Led Zeppelin on 8 track in your jacked up Nova Gran Torino Duster Cutlass Roadrunner charger Challenger mach 1 mustang or cougar well then my friend you werent with it. if anyone from seattle remembers federal way from back in the early 70's what was the name of the hot dog hamburger joint accross from federal way high school?

I had a muffler, and Tutti. My Tutti came with a miniature Mrs. Beasley doll. I had Skipper, not Scooter.
