Last night, there was an anti baby boom thread that started with a rant, and before some disruptor trashed it, some of us who were born at the tail end of the baby boom - from 1956 to 1964 - were having some nice recollections. The things that we seem to have in common are the following:
1. We were too young to serve in Vietnam, but remember the news.
2. As far as we're concerned, the music, television and popular entertainment and heroes of the 60s were and still are a matter for personal taste, and don't represent the shining apex of all civilization, icons to be revered by generations to come - in short, the Beatles were just a band that some might not like, and old Trek was cheesy and not well written.
3. Old boomers came into adulthood at the ideal economic circumstance - we've had to work for ours.
4. Our clothes and music tended to be lighthearted, and we are more conservative/libertarian as a whole than the older boomers.
So post your memories of tunes, movies, shows, fashions, school stuff, etc.
And enjoy yourselves!
I started feeling old when Nick at Night started rerunning "Happy Days".
Always loved that show but never could figure out how he could lift all that stuff without crushing his spine.
Here is another story that will warm your heart.
Willie The Goat Raises Money For A Good Cause
I still have all their album's lol I saw them in concert in 1982. In fact, Loverboy was the very first music video I saw on MTV
Absolutely right.
We had them in the early '70s- we called them "Deely Bobbers." Not sure where that name came from.
Don't worry about it- I'm black and we had "Slave Auctions" to raise money both in high school and college. It was kinda funny to see girls try to buy guys who didn't like them.
That's Diahann Carroll, and I think I did get one of those but the Francie doll stood out so much more for me.
Had a chain of those almost a half a block long. Mom made me toss it one day; I figured it would be easy to replace. Never did.
Wonder what I could get for it at a flea market these days??????????
I like them too but my all time favorite is (yes, that's is) Froot Loops (remember Oot-fray-oops-lay?)
I know there's 2 newer threads but I've been off the 'puter and am now trying to respond to posts on this thread. I'll catch up.
I actually held JT's hand after he and CS had a concert in Cleveland, uh, I'm thinking 74 and that's as close as I can come.
Everyone wanted his autograph, I had nothing for him to sign. He laughed and grabbed my hand and walked to the Greyhound size bus waiting. I remember looking at Carly and thinking that no picture could EVER do her justice. She was beautiful, period.
Banned! Outlawed!
I found a set for one stinkin dollar at a garage sale last year. The box said "adult" yard game. They are fun!
LOL! I have to admit, I was in the 'misfit' crowd - - we used to pool our money to buy a popular guy....a Geek's Revenge kind of thing!
Remember the Frito Bandito?? I LOVED that song!
