If the U.S. boosts defense spending in its quest to stop Osama bin Laden's alleged terrorist activities, there may be one unexpected beneficiary: Mr. bin Laden's family.
Among its far-flung business interests, the well-heeled Saudi Arabian clan -- which says it is estranged from Osama -- is an investor in a fund established by Carlyle Group, a well-connected Washington merchant bank specializing in buyouts of defense and aerospace companies.

Howsa 'bout this:
Perhaps whoever's in office uses Klayman as damage control.
First, they set him up to bilk both money and loyalty from the like of my (extremely astute) grandfather and me by having him be the sole defender of folks like Tripp and investigator of FBI files, Travelgate and such. He even has his staff (many of whom I've met) send out a newsletter which content makes most conservative rags look like fiscal conservative DNC centrists by comparison.
Having profiled him, then, as an uncompromising watchdog who'll ferret out the facts and refuse to compromise objective truth (no matter where the chips fall or whether he tromps on someone's sentimental attachment to a politico) they sic him on the GOP.
The immediate reaction: betrayal, outrage, disbelief. Those who cheered him turning on him like yard dogs and savaging him at every opportunity.
Why does he take the abuse? BECAUSE HE MUST. It falls to Klayman to snakebite all manner of embarrassing detail regarding corruption, scandal so that his now LEGION critics can decry, disprove and DISMISS AS A MATTER OF COURSE his every pronouncement.
That's how that game works.
Now, naturally, that would expose the GOP as a bit more bright than we're generally led to believe (what with the way the likes of Bubba & Co. running circles around them for 8 years straight).
But if you can think of another scenario which makes sense, I'd love to hear it.
I find it extremely hard to believe that Klayman and Krewe are either rolling in the schmollen OR getting some kind of sado-masochistic kicks out of ensuring ALL and sundry loathe and despise them.
Are you going to ask or shall I?
I remember after the FR rally in Washington how impressed with him I was, and a very high-profile FReeper in attendance remarked sadly, "He's a blow-dry, self-promoting phony". I didn't believe it. Now I do.
Well attention is part of it... but don't forget to send money....
.....The Form 990 reveals that while Judicial Watch spent more than $9 million on its education/fund-raising mailings, it spent only $718,626 pursuing its lawsuits--almost $280,000 less than it paid American Target Advertising, run by conservative direct-mail guru Richard Viguerie, to design and run its direct-mail campaign. ......
On that much, we agree! LOL
IRMA: If one takes the time to carefully read Larry's complaints of the last year, most of the "proof" in his "investigations" amount to only a news story in a newspaper or a letter sent to a group or individual in which Larry made demands and the group or individual did not comply.
ASKEL5: But if you can think of another scenario which makes sense, I'd love to hear it.
Not only are my statements above which you italicized based on facts, Askel, you know that I could come right back to you and post examples if I wanted to do so. I don't make this stuff up. It is all in Larry's complaints if one chooses to read them.
Have you forgotten already what you once said?
Had he jumped on the Condit story (along with the other rubberneckers around here only too happy to fixate on this summer's "Elian Saga"), THEN INDEED he would be the grandstanding scumsucker so many try very hard to make him out to be.

Should I post again all the Condit stories on Judicial Watch's website?
What do you think of his jumping on the terrorist tragedy? Is that not grandstanding? I just counted 38 articles, one popup, a complaint, and even a POLL for Cripe's sake just on JW's opening page concerning the terrorist attack.
BTW, did you read his Hamas Terrorist complaint? Did you see what he's basing his "facts" on? ***(Hint: It did not involve very much digging)***
Did you read the press release he issued THE DAY AFTER THE ATTACK in which he accuses Bush as being part of the reason the attack occurred?
How could Klayman whip out this accusation so fast? If he had information regarding terrorist attacks before September 11, why didn't we heard Larry speak up warning us BEFOREHAND? Or was he too busy with Condit? And the California energy crisis? And stem cells? And Senator Jeffords? And the recount? And the Chinese turnover of our downed plane? And Elian? And Donato? And getting on FOX News? etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
This has been baffling me and since you've met some of the Judicial Watch staff, I thought you might know the answer.
When has Larry and JW EVER worked before Sept. 11 on countering terrorism?
JUDICIAL WATCH NEEDS YOU!
