God Is Back

In the wake of an atrocity, he shows he hasn't forsaken New York.

God is back. He's bursting out all over. It's a beautiful thing to see.

In the past 17 days, since the big terrible thing, our country has, unconsciously but quite clearly, chosen a new national anthem. It is "God Bless America," the song everyone sang in the days after the blasts to show they loved their country. It's what they sang on television, it's what kids sang in school, it's what families sang in New York at 7 p.m. the Friday after the atrocity when we all went outside with our candles and stood together in little groups in front of big apartment buildings. A friend of mine told me you could hear it on Park Avenue from uptown to downtown, the soft choruses wafting from block to block.

A curious argument of the 17th century mathemetician, Blaise Pascal's is that which is known as the argument of the wager. God exists or He does not exist, and we must of necessity lay odds for or against Him.

If I wager for and God is -- infinite gain;

If I wager for and God is not -- no loss.

If I wager against and God is -- infinite loss;

If I wager against and God is not -- neither loss nor gain.

"I typed it from memory. would you like to check it against that version. "Not trying to start a food fight here nor to question your faith. I would not be so presumptuous. But you did use the operative word "version".

I admit, I don't know, because humans have shown they cannot be trusted. It is frustrating for me because I have a strong "belief" but nothing humans have done can support or tear it down because they are so untrustworthy.

I did not want to start a food fight either. I just wanted you to check it for accuracy . I am not questioning your faith, and I do not assume that you are questioning mine.

Are you familiar with the works of Josh McDowell?

Just for the record, God NEVER left - it is the people who are back! God has always been here - but the world and certain people in the world have turned away from God - just like the story of Noah - how the people had turned their back to God and were living in sin and wickedness and Noah was faithful and just and was obedient to God. But now people are back and realize they cannot save themselves and that God is the only one that can save them and this world. We have such an awesome and loving God - it is time for people to make their choice - they are either with God or against God. God bless each of you.

I'm beginning to get the impression that you're simply not interested in finding out. It seems you've already made up your mind concerning something that many, including myself, know and assert you are wrong about. If you insist on covering your eyes and ears to the truth, your blood is on your own hands.

"Are you familiar with the works of Josh McDowell? "No, I cannot say that I am! If you think it would be benificial, I will take the time to research him.

I don't believe that man needs an organized religion to be moral or to have a conscience.

It serves no usefull purpose to discuss anything further with one who knows what I am and what I think. As for blood, keep your comments to yourself.

I hope I never become so arrogant. I'll freely admit what I don't know, as for others, well I'll leave that to them.

It is impossible for humans with the best of intentions to relay information accurately for centuries

Agreed, but when led by God Almighty all things are possible. But the Bible was not written by men. Men actually penned the words, but God led their hand.

OK, angelo. You brought up the subject. Suppose you tell us what your concept of God is, and what is it's basis both literary, and historically.

I am a Jew. I reject the notion proffered by sola gracia that we have to accept Jesus in order to know and serve God.

...defending the same very same God-of-the-book that inspired the attack.

Allah is NOT the same god as the God of the bible.

Let's not get into an argument as to who is right, and who is wrong, as it applies to their Christian faith. These types of discussions have led to the divisions that are in the church i.e. denominations, sects . We Christians will never agree as to the veracity or the application of some scriptures. I am a presbyterian, a Calvinist . I have serious problems with the doctrine that Baptists espouse "Arminianism" , but it doesn't make either one of us less Christian. Being a Christian is like being pregnant, either you are or you're not. It is the work of Christ, not the work of man Calvin, Arminius, et. al
