God Is Back
WSJ Opinion Journal ^ | 28 September 2001 | Peggy Noonan

Edited on 04/23/2004 12:03:33 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

In the wake of an atrocity, he shows he hasn't forsaken New York.

God is back. He's bursting out all over. It's a beautiful thing to see.

In the past 17 days, since the big terrible thing, our country has, unconsciously but quite clearly, chosen a new national anthem. It is "God Bless America," the song everyone sang in the days after the blasts to show they loved their country. It's what they sang on television, it's what kids sang in school, it's what families sang in New York at 7 p.m. the Friday after the atrocity when we all went outside with our candles and stood together in little groups in front of big apartment buildings. A friend of mine told me you could hear it on Park Avenue from uptown to downtown, the soft choruses wafting from block to block.

Indeed! thanks for posting ... I couldn't help, when Peggy was describing the mostly-Catholic icons left at the memorial sites, thinking of the photos of the trashed Catholic icons in the home of Elian Gonzalez's relatives last summer following the "raid." We indeed are in a new time, aren't we? With new leadership that would never create such an obscene display. Gold bless America, indeed!

Having "God" upon our lips is nothing unusual in America. America has always "believed" in "God." Check the polls over the years. However, when you introduce Jesus Christ into the equation things change real fast.

You see, according to Scripture, knowing "God" is not enough. Anyone can talk about God in general. But the only God worth knowing, is the God who is revealed in the person and work of Jesus Christ. He alone is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being.

You mean according to your scripture, and your conception of God.

There is a promise from God in scripture:

"if my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land" 2nd Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

It seems that we are on the right track. We are doing the first two:

1)We must be humble (not weak, but aknowledging our dependence on God).

2)We must pray and seek His face (this is just starting, nationally).

3)We must turn from our wicked ways (this will tell whether we are serious or not).

OK, angelo. You brought up the subject. Suppose you tell us what your concept of God is, and what is it's basis both literary, and historically.

If it's a belief, why should one have to prove it? God exists, period, all the rest is moot. Religions are man-made.

The Truth is not a property of anywone. Simply - if Christians are right then Muslims and Atheists are wrong. If Atheists are right then both Christians and Muslims are wrong.

Why is it so important for someone to be right?

Religions are man-made.

Assuming that God cannot or is not willing to reveal Himself to people. There are different religions - some are made by men acting in good faith (like neo-platonism or Indian philosophu or Confucionism), some are suspect like Scientology, others claim to come from revelation like Christinianity or Islam. Man-made does not mean to be false (people can speculate correctly) and Revelation can be false or true.

Only way to sort it out is to search, study, compare and test. Dismissive platitudes cannot substitute the genuine quest for the truth, their only purpose is to find excuse to live the animalistic life and to silence one's conscience.

Very nice...

Now, the point about God Being Back, is that this Country has been telling God to Butt out of certain things...and heck, he was just obliging us. Who can blame him?

Now, however, HE is back, the question remains, for how long?

I don't have any idea what you are trying to say. Why do you assume anything about God? We are human beings, we have different religions, these religions were made up by man.

"The nation is in the grip of Stockholm syndrome, defending the same very same God-of-the-book that inspired the attack."

FYI, Muslims believe in the "god" of the Koran (Allah) not the true God of the Bible. Anyone believing in a god other than the one, true God revealed in Scripture is putting their faith in a false, non-existent deity that could not inspire anyone.
