I am absolutely amazed at what the President and his team have accomplished without firing a shot to date.

Me thinks the author has donned some spectacles with a rosy hue.

Don't underestimate bin Laden. Don't underestimate the willingness of Arabs to force this into a West Vs. Islam conflict. Don't underestimate the willingnedd of some Israelis to turn this into a Wesy vs. Islam conflict. Don't underestimate anyone...including friends and so-called allies. We are knee deep in the thornbush right now and the last thing we need to do is assume victory.

Yep, the author has it right. Instead of the blind lashing out, he's got the steely, crushing hand. The Islamic revolition backlash that was to occur is just his fantasy. I think it's all going to be lots of SAS/Special Forces operations with the occasional air strike. Low level actions without a wholescale invasion.

Very good article. For another great one with a similar theme, search for "Lights Action -- Reason," published in a Frankfurt, Germany newspaper.

Thanks for finding this, I wish we had more journalists like James Henry in the U.S. If we did maybe we wouldn't be suffering from the impression so many around the world believe about the U.S. -

The sad fact is that what little they knew of US history and policies came entirely from the country’s anti-American left, which has painted a grossly dishonest picture of America that neatly fitted in with these terrorists’ anti-American dogma thus blinding them further to the political and military consequences of their actions.

Our media stinks.

Bush is following a masterful strategy. Much of the leverage that is being effectively applied now, could be next to impossible after military action. Plus, we must take the time to position our military forces so their plans can be executed as flawlessly as possible.

Importantly, prudence now is giving us a leg-up on the threat within the States. We must know what we're up against before the blows come.

I could've sworn that President Bush said that he'd turn them on each other. Sounds like that part is going to plan.

In bin Laden’s fantasy America would either respond in a Clintonesque way and so demonstrate to the world its cowardly nature or it would blindly strike out, killing hundreds if not thousands of innocents and so inflame the whole of the Islamic world.

Another Legacy of Bill's.

It is frightening to see that the liberal left and the terrorists have so much in common.

The strategy, as explained to me, is basically simple. Make an example of bin Laden, demonstrate overwhelming military power and the will to use it against states that harbor and train terrorists; isolate the terrorists physically and squeeze them psychologically. The ultimate aim is the elimination of state-sponsored terrorism.

Right on! Good article. Thanks.

I too, have gazed in admiration and appreciation, as the steel back bone, intelligence and sheer guts of our President has changed the face of the world. As he promised, he is using EVERY tool and every resource.

"As our editor pointed out at a recent seminar in Australia, being narrowly focused to the exclusion of all else is part of the terrorists’ Achilles heel."

HEY!!! I said that 6 months ago!!!!

Hello quidam, is that you? (I mean the author, not the poster.) The article reminds me of our own quidam's weighty interpretations of Ken Starr's inaction (or puzzling moves for that matter) during the glory days of the Whitewater investigations. I certainly hope the author is right, but I tend to think that too little is now known to us to reach any conclusions about Bush's team's strategy.

One thing for sure though. These turbaned monkeys are as ignorant of the ways of the West as, well, turbaned monkey. The best comparison that comes to mind would be our home grown "idealists", the SLA and the Weathermen. 'Naive fools' would be the most generous term to describe them. Dangerous and naive.

We should all be singing the praises of one who will go down in history as one of our great Presidents. He is surprising even the most hardened socialists with his courageous calm and down home intellect. He truely is a Uniter.

The entire middle east is shaking in their sandals as the supporting nations of terrorism are slowly exposed to the civilized world. George W has shown compassion, passionate patriotism, sensitivity and leadership while comforting a nation stung sharply by senseless mmass murder. He is also sending a strong message to the world. That America is still the greatest Nation on earth. That we can survive and overcome. And woe is any Nation that dare rise up against freedom and democracy. Go GWB!!!

I’m not saying that terrorism will end with bin Laden, only that his head must be the first to roll if victory is to be achieved. Once this is done, the invisible war against terrorism will accelerate, from the freezing of bank accounts to the assassination of terrorist organizers and the smashing of their networks.

Yup, no OJ media circus trials, no getting off by slick shysters like Johnny. Just hunt the terrorist dogs down and put a little lead right between the eyes. Open em up and let the sun shine in! Leave a little calling card like some bacon shoved in their mouths so the scum and his friends think he is in hell, not paradise. We should send them all to hell so they can be with allah sooner rather than later. Is that too extreme? It’s better than a bio\chem\nuclear terror attack, which is what they want to do next. Kill or be killed, it looks like to me.
