Open Letter to the President (or, Why Bush Has Lost My Vote)
me | 9/26/2001 | Brent C. Skilton (aka Heisenburger)

Posted on 09/26/2001 2:02:39 PM PDT by Heisenburger

Dear Mr. President:

I want to tell you that you have lost my vote in the 2004 election. Though I voted for you in 2000, though I donated to your Victory 2000 campaign, and though I wore your pins and t-shirts, I cannot support you again.

Your diplomatic team, by trying to build a world coalition, has allowed Middle-Eastern and Arab dictatorships to dictate what we can and cannot do to respond to the attacks that took place on September 11. Instead of following the example of Ronald Reagan and basing foreign policy only on what is in the best interests of the United States, you have made concessions to Pakistan and Middle-Eastern countries that will threaten our security for years to come. The coalition has indeed determined the mission, not the other way around.

Specifically, your administration's statement that you will not overthrow the Taliban is unthinkably misguided. To not overthrow the Taliban is to give a feeling of security and power to other states that sponsor terrorism. Not only that, but it makes your statement last Thursday that the Taliban would share in the fate of terrorists an outright lie. One of the reasons I supported you in the 2000 election was that I was sick of being lied to by the Clinton administration. Now I see that you and your team are no different.

Furthermore, the fact that your administration, in an attempt to keep from offending Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, is not concentrating on Iraq as an important link to the Septemeber 11 attacks shows that you are not truly concerned with protecting Americans and ending terrorism. As Colin Powell said, Hussein is indeed the greatest terrorist in the world today. That he had a hand in the attacks on the 11th is not only highly probable, but also fairly obvious. The world can never be safe as long as Saddam Hussein is still in power.

In closing, I would remind you that you have a chance to win back my vote by changing your policy towards terror states and terrorists themselves. Perhaps your team should realize that "it is easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission."

Sincerely,
Brent Skilton

The flames that you are receiving are almost word for word of the ones I received when I complained about Bushs' lack of action against the clintons. Stand your ground, if you need to apologize, you can do it later. I don't think you will need to.

Fickle! That's what you are! Remember, the President said we must have patience. We cannot turn hundreds of thousands of military people on a dime. We are coordinating with quite a few other nations. This takes time. If we try to launch this thing before all the T's are crossed and all the i's are dotted, we will fail!

Quite frankly, I don't think Bush ever had your vote - even in the last election!!

"So I can assume that you are going to enlist in the Armed Forces to help this effort? Seeing as how you're a big fan of action, and all..."

I would..hell yeah!! Give me a carrier ship, a few tanks, some uzi's and amunition and I'll fight the SOB's myself..one hand tied behind my back:)

And I agree that Bush needs to take action very soon. This is getting be Carter -- the sequel. I mean they are almost daring us to stike. Iran too!

You rave against President Bush simply because you have an "impression" that Colin Powell disagrees with him? I find it difficult to believe that you ever really suported President Bush if you are that easily offended.

Where exactly is the conflict between Bush and Powell?

Have you read the article posted under breaking news entitled "US Will Not Endorse Jessee Jackson Trip" (or something similar) in which it is stated; "Powell, Armitage said, told Jackson that the demands laid on the Taliban by President George W. Bush were "not negotiable" and that if the militia wanted to avoid possible retaliatory strikes it must hand over bin Laden and eliminate his al-Qaeda network. "

Simply tell us on which point Powell disagrees with the President.

Heisenburger,
I don't know what prompted me to save this letter to my hard disk way back in 2001, but I ran across it this morning while looking for something else. Has Dubya won your vote back in light of him doing practically everything you mentioned in this letter? Just Curious. Happy Holidays.

Your prescience is nothing short of astounding. Do you think we ought to give Heisenburger a little time to grow a tail, so he may answer your question properly?

I'm LMAO!! I almost lost my coffee on that one.

You know, there are so many articles I've seen on FR through the years that I wished I had saved. When I ran across this one the first thing that popped into my head was, why the (F)Heck did I save this crap. Then my devious side overcame me and I thought I'd have a little fun. Thanks for making me laugh out loud.

Hope you Holiday is going well.

If Mr. Heisenburger had just one scintilla of affinity for you, you can bet your last dollar, that it has now, disappeared into the ether.!

He hasn't posted anything since 2001 just after the first war began. May not even be lurking anymore. It's pretty tough to go back to just lurking after commenting on things. It's too addictive.

I did not notice the date when I firsted started reading this thread, I was soon saying to myself "what the ...", then I noticed the date.

It is good to go back in the archives once and awhile to see what the mood was like a few years ago. If anyone would have wrote that in less then two years we would have taken on Afghanistan and Iraq we would would have been hooted down as being too crazy for this forum.

This administration has performed very well considering all of the obstacles they have had to overcome. I, for one, will continue to support President Bush.
