If I were Bill Maher, I'd ask Arianna to keep her mouth shut. Having that weirdo support him is going to do more harm than good.
In a related story, O.J. Simpson has started a petition to keep Bill Maher on the air.
"I think he's the sharpest guy on television," the former NFL star said yesterday, "He's a real cutthroat kind of host, and really slices through all the bullsh!t."
/sarcasm off/

Digby Diehl and Todd Gitlin, and comedian Elayne Boosler, Who?
I recognize the Clintons, and the Gores, on the list, however.

THANKS A ZILLION!
I've been sleeping most of the last 3 days and missed this petition. That was fun. Not as creative as I usually am, but a lot of fun to sign. Let's FReep the hell out of it so it will take some poor sap days to clean it up, if they even notice.

Bicoastal pundit Arianna Huffington... I had no idea Arianna was bicoastal. Does her (ex)husband know?

O.J. Simpson . . . now there's a stab from the past. < /sarcasm>
To: Alberta's Child
In a related story, O.J. stated that if Bill Maher lost his job as host of PI, he (Simpson) would, "be willing to take a stab at it."
To: wai-ming
Her husband was bicoastal. That's why she's divorced.
I've signed the petition a couple of times now. The last time I signed under the name "Bye, Bye Maher, you ignorant dickhead." I don't think they are getting the kind of responses that they wanted. See http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?promaher&1

No. But her ex is just very glad that he's her ex.

I wrote to ABC because I don't like his show - and this is the response I got:
Thank you for the opportunity to clarify my comments made on Monday's "Politically Incorrect" which should have been expressed differently. In no way was I intending to say, nor have I ever thought, that the men and women who defend our nation in uniform are anything but courageous and valiant, and I offer my apologies to anyone who took it wrong. My criticism was meant for politicians who, fearing public reaction, have not allowed our military to do the job they are obviously ready, willing and able to do, and who now will, I'm certain, as they always have, get it done.
For some strange reason I don't find his apology sincere....

There was never a real Maher apology. He never apologized for saying what he did. He simply apologized if WE took it wrong. It's all our fault, see?

If you sign this you're supporting him. do you thinkk they'll read the comments? they'll just say how many signed it.
To: Alberta's Child
Press accounts report that Simpson's chances of replacing Maher as host of Politically incorrect are RAZOR thin.

If ABC/Disney kicks Maher off the air it's the same as being kicked off HERE at FreeRepublic. It's certainly not censorship. Maher has no right to be on TV. Just as I have not right to post these words right now. Right here.
It's the business of ABC/Disney and it's shareholders if Maher keeps his job or gets fired. I read some of the posts on the "petition". It's amazing how many people don't understand what censorship is. Or is not. What free speech is, or is not. What property is, or is not.
Mr Maher can say anything he wants, anytime he wants, just not anywhere he wants. But he can continue to say whatever he wants on ABC. As long as he wants. If he can figure out a way to buy ABC.
To: IM4TRUTH
I never thought it was his apology at all either - it is a PR apology.... that is all..... the problem I have with his show is that he doesn't have two conservative guests, and two liberal - no, it is him and three liberals against ONE conservative and the libs think that is free speech?
To: WhyisaTexasgirlinPA
I've always called that show "4 to 1". But I must admit, it was more balanced and interesting when it was fresh and on cable. But Maher, like so many other short guys that get fame in Hollywood, meet Hefner and get to talk dirty to porn stars, Maher began to think he was taller than he is. And instead of being a "persona" he became "himself". And that guy is a real SOB.
The SOB shot himself in the foot. Tough!
