Jackson praises Bush for withholding attack
by Robin Washington
Tuesday, September 25, 2001
Speaking to Harvard law students yesterday, the Rev. Jesse Jackson praised the Bush administration for holding off an attack on Afghanistan in favor of using intelligence and diplomatic channels to bring terrorist leader Osama bin Laden to justice.
``The profound changes toward (building) coalitions (and) diplomatic ties is a huge step in the right direction,'' he said, lauding President Bush for ``choosing wisely'' in pursuing alternatives to military action.
``We must choose precise intelligence over indiscriminate bombing,'' he said, turning the phrase into a chant repeated by the overflow crowd in the school's Austin Hall.
He added, however, that much of that decision stems from the administration's realization that terrorist cells are not easy to find.
``While we have the strongest military on Earth, we have a tremendous intelligence deficiency. If we knew who to hit, we would.''
Jackson said he interpreted President Bush's ``dead or alive'' call for the capture of bin Laden as a sign of the administration's willingness to work with the World Court in bringing bin Laden to justice.
``That's a profound change that they have taken,'' he said, though he warned that the alternative would be disastrous. ``If alive, World Court. If not, world war.''
The Rainbow Coalition leader also decried an upsurge of racial profiling against Arab-Americans and others after the Sept. 11 tragedy, telling students that they had the power to combat such ``scapegoating'' by forming coalitions across cultural lines.
``You must join the coalition for social justice. We must all close ranks,'' he said.
Citing his own missions to retrieve Americans from countries without diplomatic ties with the United States, Jackson stressed the value of negotiating with religious bodies that U.S. administrations have undervalued.
Law student Courtney Dunbar was impressed by that analysis.
``His experience has demonstrated to him that the use of clerics and religious leaders is an essential piece, especially when we are engaging governments with whom we do not have diplomatic relations,'' she said.

Does Courtney know that the Rev. Jackson was doing his secretary, knocked her up and had to amend his tax returns to show that he paid her off with Rainbow Coalition money? I guess she missed that class.

Dear Lance,
It is only proper etiquette to post any Jesse Jackson news with the tag BARF ALERT afterwards. Please follow this policy so alot of us will know to turn our heads and not destroy our monitors and keyboards with bile.

This is a real bad sign that we're waiting around too long.
Hey, we can always hope [against hope] that we *have* attacked and it's just that no one has formally said anything about it yet...
To: Rev. Jackson
Uh, massing forces and "holding off an attack" aren't exactly the same.
Thanks for your support, though -- I guess.

I just knew that Jesse wouldn't be silenced for long. Please America when you are saying your prayers..Thank God that Jesse has been quiet for at least 14 days. Woohoo! Anyways, I'm glad that he's actually worrying about the country and not his own "plight".
Also, Jesse if you had the balls to stand up to Louis Farrahkhan when it was worthwhile he wouldn't seem to have the upperhand as he does now. Bummer for you!

Very faint praise from JJ when he emphasises that Bush hasn't retaliated because its military intelligence lags far behind its hardware (thanks to Klinton).

Jesse's out there at the edge of the freeway, yelling and gesturing, THIS WAY!, THIS WAY!, as if he has anything to do with it al all. What a jerk.

Sources say that Jesse has been busy formulating his plans to market his own brand of salad dressing. The brand would be aimed at upscale consumers, and include Jesse's secret ingredient, spit.

Jesse reminds me of those squigee boys that used to run up to your car in NYC. You can't get rid of them. You can't run them over. And if you give them money they show up in larger numbers the next time you go through there. And if you defend yourself against them, you're "assautling the downtrodden".
To: Keith
Just what I wanted to say...like asking someone color blind to pass judgement on red and green...this fool doesn't know the difference.
Shut up, Jesse...go bop a bimbo and stay off the battlefield.
