Just announced on Fox News. Cockpit recorder on as yet identified plane identifies one of the pilots in jump seat was possible hijacker. Says He was already in cockpit when flight took off. FBI sources quoted

If we are talking about one of the four planes that crashed on 09/11/2001, this would have to be the plane that crashed in PA, as the CVR that crashed into the Pentagon was too cooked to recover any useful information.

The news report didn't specify, but your observation makes sense....until earlier today when a ten foot section of the fuselage was found at ground zero NY.

The way I understood the report that at east one of the hijackers was in fact sitting in the cockpit....had to have uniform and I.D. or at least I.D.

..As well as reported instances of stolen cockpit keys.... The keys were to the cockpit door--given that the cockpit doors are not much more sturdy than a piece of dry wall and can be easily kicked in, the keys were nothing but show.

And every single Boeing cockpit door can be opened with the same key. Anybody know stock symbols for lock and key corporations?

For all intents and purposes, they were "pilots."

1. They had at least some rudimentary training in flying airliners.

2. They had pilot uniforms and (probably) pilot identification.

If pilots were permitted to carry guns on airplanes, these guys would have walked onto the airplanes with their own guns. They wouldn't have needed any boxcutters to carry out the hijackings.

I expect that over the next couple of days we will find that the U.S. government recruited them from villages in the Middle East and sent them to flight school on taxpayer-funded scholarships.

If I wasn't so cynical, I'd be shocked at just how fat, stupid, and lazy this country has become.

At least one was dressed as a pilot and took the plane over after take-off. American Airlines had a bunch of pilot uniforms stolen in Rome about 18 months ago.

If you remember the incident with FedEx Flt 705 attempted hijacking in 1994, it was a crewmember who was the attacker and was sitting in the cockpit with the crew. Flight 705</a href> GREAT read!! (If you can find it....)

What do you do with all the foreign airlines? Ban them and US airlines will be banned from their countries. Which could make it hard to visit London (unless you change planes halfway over the Atlantic). *g*

there was a guy several years ago that flew numerous times by being a fake pilot and using the jump seat. He faked an id, bought a uniform from a uniform store and flew everywhere as a pilot needing a hitch to the next departure point.
