On the radar post, see that little hook to the right near DC? That's where you will normally find a tornado, at least according to our weather guys in TN.

Weather Channel reports tornado touchdown in DC 1/2 hour ago, they are on the phone now with locals.

Three trailers destroyed 4 trailers heavily damaged, a few houses damaged, no severe injuries. Trailer park area the worst of it

I think that's all they said, hard to type and listen at the same time.

Tornadoes reported 10 miles north of me in Culpeper. Bad rain here but no twisters.

Outside the Beltway, pretty common. Inside the Beltway, rare. That's because it really SUCKS inside the Beltway.

Statement as of 6:07 PM EDT on September 24, 2001 ...Tornado Weakened While Moving Through Howard County... The Tornado Warning for Howard and Anne Arundel counties in Maryland has expired will not be extended. Doppler radar showed a steady weakening and break up of the tornadic circulation while moving trhough Howard County. In addition authorities in Howard County reported no additional damage in the county since that which occured earlier near the Prince Georges county line in north Laurel. Thus it apprears that the threat to Baltimore City and county has diminished. However residents should continue to be alert for storms in their area that could still spawn tornadoes. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 8 PM. At 548 PM Doppler radar showed the tornado just north of Laurel in extreme northern Prince Georges county...moving northeast at 30 mph into extreme southeast Howard County.

I had to sign off for awhile - still no reports of injuries. Have not heard much about UMD yet. I do not know if they are still calling it a "collapse".

I am watching DC stations and will report as I can.

Laurel High School roof gone and glass broken.

An email I just received from my daughter ....... she works near the Pentagon, lives in northern VA:

I saw it form in Crystal City on a news camera posted on a building! Rotating wall cloud, then the tornado dropped down and knocked the camera out.

Btw, she is safely at home now. Thank God!
