Petition to Establish a National Monument at the Crash Site of Flight 93
Petitiononline ^ | Sep 21, 2001 | Jeff Head

Posted on 09/21/2001 5:05:29 PM PDT by Jeff Head

To:  The President and the Congress of the United States

Whereas passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93, in the richest traditions of American bravery, courage and commitment to the ideals of liberty, did resist and fight foreign terrorists who had taken control of their aircraft, and,

Whereas the resistance of these individuals either contributed to, or caused, the crash of this aircraft before it could reach the intended target of these suicidal terrorists and enemies of the United States of America, and,

Whereas by contributing to or causing the crash of there own aircraft these individuals undoubtedly contributed to the saving of hundreds, if not thousands, of more innocent lives during theattack on America on September 11, 2001.

Therefore, let it be petitioned to the United States Congress and the President of the United States and resolved that:

A National Monument and Memorial be erected at the crash site near Shanksville, PA, where these brave Americans ended the evil designs of our enemies that day, with no regard to their own lives or safety, and,

That said Monument and Memorial stand as a witness at all times, for now and forever, that Liberty has a price, a price paid down through they history of our nation and now paid by these dear patriots who gave their all to protect the lives and liberties of their fellow Americans, and,

That a an inscription of all the names of the passengers and crew of that aircraft be had there and that the names of those who are known to have participated in the resistance to, and attack on the terrorists be noted, namely:

Todd Beamer
Sandra Bradshaw
Thomas Burnett
Jeremy Glick
Linda Gronlund

and any others shown to have been actively involved in the plan to retake the aircraft, and,

That this Monument and memorial be established and built with all due haste, and that it be opened year round to any American desiring to visit.

So petitioned and signed as U.S. citizens.

Sincerely,

SIGN THIS PETITION

I do support that WWII memorial on the mall. My Dad fis a combat vet from the Pcific, my uncle died in a B-17 over Germany.

Let's make sure it doesn't take as long for these heroes.

To: Jeff Head, FReepers Please Sign the Petition to Establish a Nat'l Monument for Flight 93

LET'S ROLL!

"These are the times that try men's souls.
The summer soldier and sunshine patriot will,
in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country;
but he that stands it now,
deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.
Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered;
yet we have this consolation with us,
that the harder the conflict,
the more glorious the triumph."

Written by Private Thomas Paine while sitting at a campfire with his fellow soldiers using a battle drum as his desk. He called it The American Crisis in which he hoped to bolster the declining spirit of the Continental Army after suffering a disasterous defeat in New York and had to retreat into New Jersey. On Christmas Eve, 1776, General George Washington oredered Paine's words to be read out loud to the soldiers.

After reading the pamphlet, the American troops crossed the Delaware and launched a surprise attack on the Hessian soldiers at Trenton.

This victory clearly showed that Americans will not give up their liberty without a fight. And so too, did the brave passengers of Flight 93.

Linda Gronlund--Flight 93 Passenger

You know, I had never noticed it before, but as I reread that statement, I was struck with a sense of true American pride. How many people in other countries would even think to VOTE to do something -- especially at a time of extreme crisis?

These were true Americans to the end. People of a tyrant nation would NEVER think to vote about anything.

Tears of absolute pride are welling up again -- just when I thought I didn't have any tears left...

GOD bless America! GOD bless her people!

I disagree totally with this petition. We will honor these victims, but not on that spot. If we don't rebuild on this site, then the terrorists will have succeeded in crippling our economy.

You are misreading this petition entirely. Read the petition. It is not about the WTC site, it is about the crash site of United Flight 93 in a Pennsylvania field ... the one that the passengers tried to retake the plane.

Regards.
