BUSH APPOINTS PRO-ABORTION 'CATHOLIC' TO HEAD HOME SECURITY

WASHINGTON, September 21, 2001 (LSN.ca) - In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in the United States, President George Bush announced last night the creation of a Cabinet-level position to head the new Office of Homeland Security. In a great disappointment to pro-lifers, Bush named notoriously pro-abortion Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, to head the office.

Matt Abbott, director of public affairs for America's Pro-Life Action League told LifeSite, "If Ridge refuses to ensure the security of the most helpless citizens of his state - the unborn - how can he be expected to safeguard security for the nation?" Abbott also commented that Ridge is "a self-proclaimed Catholic while maintaining his strident pro-abortion position. What kind of principles does a person like that have? It makes you uncertain of such a person's leadership qualities."

See related coverage on the position and Ridge's pro-abortion stand:

Now, that is a political issue and one to pay attention to.

I'm glad that someone agrees.

You must not have gotten the memo, it's one America right now. You are either with America or you are not, which is it?

If your "one America" no longer permits freedom of thought and freedom of speech, I'm 100% against it. If the America you're fighting for is the kind of fascist state where we're required to kiss our maximum leader's butt on a daily basis and proclaim that his every decision is a wonderful paragon of wisdom, you can take your "one America" and stuff it, bud.

The moment America ceases to be a free country and starts being the kind of nation where one's loyalty is identified with one's approval of the acts of the Chief of State is the kind of America that I will not only not support, but will oppose to my dying day. Look up at the top of your screen, man! It says "Free Republic," not "Fascist Totalitarian State." If your definition of American is "someone who thinks George W. Bush (or any other politician) is above criticism," you are much closer to being part of the problem than part of the cure.

Bush just appointed yet another liberal, baby-killer, anti-RKBA RINO to his adminstration. If you can't handle hearing objections to that without implying that people who object to liberal, baby-killing, anti-RKBA RINOs are un-American, you should get back to DU where you belong.

The contempt and vitriol directed toward the original poster leads me to believe that she is right: this office will be used to persecute Christians, the moment a Democrat takes office, if not before.

I pray for those who lost their lives, I pray for their families. I also pray for those aborted children, the mothers who had the abortions, and mostly for our country to overturn Roe V. Wade.

As far as prosletyzing, well, just gotta do it. You know, the Holy Father says its our J-O-B. I happen to think the world needs it, and there seems to be alot of it going around lately. Jesus even tells us to do it. If your a Christian its your job too.

I didnt think you'd believe what Mother Teresa said, or Our Lady, you dont have too, I'm not shoving it down anyones throat. Its just what I believe. And I try to do it the way its supposed to be done, with love and gentleness. I'm not always good at that part but I'm working on it.

I like some of the things that President Bush has done to move us away from abortion. Other things hes done I dont like. I'll keep praying he keeps us going in the right direction. Mr. Ridge may very well be a good pick for defending the home front but his stance on abortion is in direct opposition to the church to which he says he belongs. Something is wrong with that.

Condolences, proud2beRC. Once again, a pro-lifer who dares to point out that a pro-abort has been appointed to a very powerful position in a Republican pro-life administration becomes "the bad guy."

I can understand why you'd question Ridge's ethics and judgement, but as this thread illustrates, most people don't care about his blatant hypocrisy. Funny thing is, if he had any hint of racism in his past, people would care. But they'll give him a pass on the baby killing thing.

I wish Bush would use better judgement. Someone confused on abortion might become easily confused on other issues. I suppose the consulation prize is that the home secutity position has nothing to do with abortion.

Guliani is pro-abortion."

"Great point. Does his stand on abortion somehow invalidate the amazing things he has done in the past 10 days?"

If his personal values weren't so screwed up he would have defeated Hildebeast. Because he has no MORAL compass he withdrew and let Hildebeast win. What he did the past 10 days highlights a strength but he has hurt the Republican party because of his immmoral social policies and his immoral personal life. Thank Rudy for Hildebeast winning as the Senator of NY.

Some people evidently think we're fighting for the freedom to silence Christians. They claim they want the government out of their lives. Very soon they will want the government to persecute or kill anyone who disagrees with them. You can see it starting on threads like this one.

Some of these so-called "conservatives" need to go back and read the Constitution. Sure enough, our freedom to believe and practice our religion, and everything that implies, is right there in black and white. Abortion? It's never mentioned. Not one word. It exists in the Constitution only in the imaginations of 5 unelected judges who arrogated to themselves the power to invalidate the laws of all 50 states to promote a partisan political agenda. That isn't "conservatism". That's the seed of tyranny.

Nothing like your single-minded fanaticism to drive away moderate pro-lifers like myself.

Consider it one more you have lost to the cause.

Is it just me or does there seem to be an anti-christian undercurrent lately. If you agree with the president, then full speed ahead, your OK. But if you disagree it seems your no better than the extremist Taliban.

Those saints I talked about earlier also described the upcoming persecution.

No matter what happens in this nation, this is the only subject some people relate to an event.

If you think about it the people still caught in the rubble are hidden from view, just like an unborn child. I am not worried about Ridge's pro-abortion stand. This whole thing is changing hearts and it is possibile that his heart may change. God has a way of dealing like that. What a great testament he could be for life. Let us pray.

I've got my fingers crossed on the Homeland Defense bureacracy and on Governor Ridge.

I'm anxious about the new Cabinet position, and about any regulations that come out of it. I can't see any direct impact on the abortion issue from this new regulatory body in the immediate future, but whoever thought that RICO would be combined with the impossible Medicare regulations and used against doctors and hospitals, or combined with the FACE laws and used against pro-life demonstrators? The very function of this bureau is to track, investigate, and watch anyone who could be considered a threat to safety. By the nature of that function, the activities will be somewhat secret from the general public.

Now, just think, someday there's a Democrat-appointed head of Homeland Defense. Say, Lawrence Tribe or Janet Reno or Al Gore or Hillary Clinton. (I see that some of you have)

We have a great President. I don't want to ever seem not to support him. But, that does not mean that I will not express concern about specific issues and actions. If Governor Ridge can somehow justify abortion while claiming to be a Catholic, then I'm very concerned about his character. As we saw with Janet Reno, and her FBI lists of pro-life, pro-second amendment, and religious "fanatics," Federal government power can be abused without any basis in law.

Here's a website that reviews the Homeland Defense/Homeland security history and the military's input.

I hate that I'm sounding even a little like a pessimist on this. But, I'm always surprised by how good law can become bad in practice.

No, its not just you. It seems that anyone who has a slightly different opinion these days is an evil traitor. The closed-minded group-think around here is disturbing, IMO.

>For some people, all roads lead to the abortion issue. I swear some people would rather have an incompetent boob in charge of homeland security as long as he was pro-life.

no kidding, I swear some people could accept a pro-terrorist cabinet member as long as he was pro-life. I'm being sarcastic of course, but still, it's getting ridiculous.

This is not the time to try to divide this country and people using this tragedy to get their pro-whatever agenda out in the open is not only tacky, but downright disgusting.
