BUSH APPOINTS PRO-ABORTION 'CATHOLIC' TO HEAD HOME SECURITY
WASHINGTON, September 21, 2001 (LSN.ca) - In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in the United States, President George Bush announced last night the creation of a Cabinet-level position to head the new Office of Homeland Security. In a great disappointment to pro-lifers, Bush named notoriously pro-abortion Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, to head the office.
Matt Abbott, director of public affairs for America's Pro-Life Action League told LifeSite, "If Ridge refuses to ensure the security of the most helpless citizens of his state - the unborn - how can he be expected to safeguard security for the nation?" Abbott also commented that Ridge is "a self-proclaimed Catholic while maintaining his strident pro-abortion position. What kind of principles does a person like that have? It makes you uncertain of such a person's leadership qualities."

Perhaps through this national crisis the pro-life movement can get the nation's ear.
There is nothing like a tragedy for getting people's attention about the important things.
Speaking for myself, I don't look at everything through a pro-life/pro-choice prism.
Bush, the guy at the top, is pro-life. That's who I look at.
What in the HELL does that have to do with his ability to be in charge of Homeland Security? He is a great governor and a former Marine. Just what we need.
Radical come in all shapes, this is a time to be concerned about National freakin Security.
Thank you dirtboy. BTW, I remember candidate Dubya saying abortion would not be a litmus test. I'm glad he kept his word. If we don't have the left picking apart his judical nominess, we have some on the right picking apart someone he considers "the best man for the job" for fighting terrorism.
I am also very anti-abortion. But this illustrates why abortion should not be a political issue. There are other, more effective ways to fight it, starting in our own homes, in our own communities. Oh well, different thread, different topic.
Yes you see, it's a good way to keep their issue out front and don't forget to send some money while you are at it. Isn't it strange how President Bush can just sit around and plot these evil things? Here is the nation in tragedy and he is plotting evil to get his friend in line to be VP. Now that is a stretch.....
Now, that is a political issue and one to pay attention to.
Not that I don't like your product, I'm just not buying from YOU, today.
This argument is a total non-sequitor.
In the Dallas Morning News yesterday, we had a letter to the editor from someone who said she could not understand why we are morning 6,000+ dead in the WTC attack, when there are 4,000 abortions a day.
Why is this amazing? Do different human beings have different value to you? Do we only mourn when the deaths happen in a clump, or when they are out of our control?
Human life is either valuable or it is not. How can you say that one person's criteria for "human enough to protect" is more valid than the next person's?
Bayoured, perhaps you could explain your non sequitor. Why do you presume, from what Storm Orphan posted of the letter, any other motive than concern for human life?
Good grief, look at how Janet Reno used the laws and regulations available to her.
I could write several threads worth of absurdities previously believed in and horrors committed by Popes, and Roman Catholics. I shan't do that. Just don't expect people to put up with having others try to shove their beliefs down their throats.
I know something about visions, sitngs, and supposed weeping Madonas. Many of the recent ( those that I remember reading about or see on T.V. reports ) weeping Marys and and sitings, have been poo pooed by the Vatican. I know that the Fatima prophecies have been kept secret, and then some of them proclaimed TRUE after the fact.
This is NOT the timw, nor place for proslestizing . We are a pluralistic society and I, for one, am getting VERY offended by all of the kooks claiming to have the ONLY wod on this. How would you like it if some extreme Islamics got on here telling you their views, and declaring that they were the ONLY ones who were rght ? Think about that, before you , or anyone else decide to post again.
I'll say it again. ABORTIONS AND INFANTICIDES HAVE BEEN DONE FROM TIME IMMEMORIAL. GOD HAS NOT NUKED ANY COUNTRIES BECAUSE OF THAT EVER.
GOD would have spared Sodom, if ten good men could have been found there. Are we to now believe that there aren't ten good men in all of the USA , so GOD has punished thousands of people , whether they were good or not ? Then why was Pearl Harbor bombed ? Abortion wasn't legal then. Was abortion legal in Japan, in the '40's ? They are the ONLY country that has ever been nuked.
Wonderful! My conscience tells me that abortion is always the unjust taking of an innocent human life, and should never be permitted for anyone, under any circumstances. Are you going to let me follow my conscience, or aren't you?
(And, BTW, if you're going to tell me that my conscience only binds me, and doesn't permit me to make moral judgements about others' behavior, I'm going to ask you exactly why you think what happened in New York on September 11 was wrong. After all, it wasn't against the terrorists' consciences, so where do you get off passing judgement on it?)
