DETROIT -- A federal agent was shot inside the federal building on Friday, police said.
The person who shot the agent also was shot, said Detroit Officer Robert Carlton.
The shooting occurred two blocks from the courthouse where a hearing was held Friday for three men arrested in Detroit during an FBI investigation into a man on the agency's "watch list." A U.S. magistrate ordered the men detained Friday, saying they presented a flight risk.

I did a search and didn't see anything other than a post from a freeper who heard a WJR news report. This article adds a little more information. My wife just called and said that the Federal Agent, probably a US Marshall has died and that the perp has been taken to a local hospital. Hopefully, he won't croak until the FBI has a crack at him.

Is the first casuality of the new war after September 11 or is it an isolated non-related event?
To: GVgirl
No idea. Could just be some crank, pissed that his food stamps have been curtailed or something. Who knows? But in this climate, you can't take any chances.

Assassins?Doubtful. A marshall isn't much of a target to go after. These SOBs like lots of innocent people not individuals.

No idea. Details are sketchy at this point. Unfortunately, I have to leave my computer now for the afternoon.
Maybe some other Detroit area freeper can step in and let people know if more details are developed.

The Federal Building is the big ole' Welfare office. Could have just been a disgruntled husband or something. They keep waivering on whether the guy shot ( and I am terribly sorry for him and his family) was a civilian security officer or a federal officer.

PMSNBC is still only flashing the message at the top of the screen but no detail behind it.

It also houses the FBI.

Bump...for another Detroit (home of the largest Arab population outside of the Middle East) freeper to step up and keep the crew advised.
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs
Been there many times, and you are absolutely right. That building sees a high volume of "low income/social strata" individuals. Could be just that: street scum.
Then again, who knows?

home of the largest Arab population outside of the Middle East Do they have American flags flying or ribbons on their lapel? Are they in mourning for our lost citizens?

Federal Agent Shot in Detroit DETROIT (AP) - A federal agent and a gunman were shot Friday in the office building housing the FBI (news - web sites), police said.
The agent was taken by ambulance to Detroit Receiving Hospital.
A second man, apparently the shooting suspect, was taken out of the McNamara federal office building on a stretcher with his neck in a brace and a pile of bandages on his abdomen.
An ambulance left under police escort to an undisclosed hospital. The area was cordoned off with police tape.
The conditions of those shot were not immediately known.
A witness, Joel Vander Linden of Warren, said he was waiting in line at the metal detectors when he heard a man behind him ``complaining loudly ... cussing.''
Vander Linden said as he going to the elevators, he heard a ``boom,'' but was rushed out the door before he could see anything else.
The shooting occurred two blocks from the federal courthouse where a hearing was held earlier in the day for three men arrested in Detroit during the FBI investigation of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
A U.S. magistrate ordered the three detained, saying they presented a flight risk.

Don't be so sure, anyone lighter than black is considered "white" in Detroit!
