You didn't bother to read the next line. Or more likely you are as clueless as I stated:
Before the rah rah gang goes clueless again, that was only an example of your friend, VA's asininity.
It is called "illustrating the absurd with the absurd." Now go get a clue!

I was citing normal procedure. You know, like the Presidential Executive Order declaring a state of national emergency - you know, that one. Now, FEMA's draconian powers are activated - Presidential Executive Order 12919.
In case you can't read the instructions either, you're not supposed to eat kitty-litter.

As the "War on Terrorists" begins to emulate the "War on Drugs" a "Homeland Defense Agency" is needed to emulate the "Drug Enforcement Agency." I predict that this new agency, like the DEA, will never solve anything lest their raison d'etre ceases to exist. In fact, they will make the problem appear worse to keep that budget increasing

He can't do much. All he does is report to the president about progress on defending against terrorism. I think it is a bit of a stretch to make it sound like he is going to destroy the 2nd Amendment. I heard these same arguments when the Drug Enforcement Agency was announced ... I heard the same arguments when the Department of Education was announced ... I heard these same arguments when the Environmental Protection Agency was announced ...

A new Cabinet post of Homeland Defence? What the hell do we have an Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Defence Department for, then?? Not to mention a CIA, DIA, FBI, INS, etc. I guess we need someone to get them to work together / coordinate information and actions? Or are we creating a whole separate bureacracy? If the former, OK. If the latter, who are we going to disband because they have proven themselves ineffective in doing their job?

My point is that the new agency is NOT required! It's another hole into which the government will pour money. Your money and my money. "Homeland Defense"? The name sounds suppicious to me. Suppose they decide to classify 'gangs' as threats to the "Homeland". Then, maybe it'll be 'racists'. Then, maybe it'll be (fill in the blank).
These are the kinds of actions that cause the erosion of freedom, not the enhancement of freedom.
Did you notice that the Pols on both sides were in favor of all this? That's scary!

#142 Well, I'm willing to bet the Commander in Chief knows what to do, how and when to do it. OTOH, you could still do that open letter to tell him. I wish you'd have a day, when you find something good to say about this country. Since you're unable to divide it, seems you'd want to join.

Hi Badray,
I completely agree with your post. During Bush's speech, his announcement of Ridge's appointment to a newly expanded governmental position had me jumping to my feet --- and it was not a positive jump!
Set aside his pro-abortion stance --- the Catholics can battle over that one. We'll see if Ridge's PA fans will still be fans when they realize they were left paying the bills for sports stadiums, pension plans, etc. for years to come.
He has apparently benefited from his continual sell-outs purely for resume' enhancements. There are some politicians who are still just politicians, whether an "R" or a "D".

Possible/likely JBT alert! Another tyrant in the making?

I see that the Lt Gov and soon to be acting Governor of Pennsylvania is Mark Shweiker. Anybody, know if he is Democrap or Republican. I suspect he is from the GOP.

It is absolutely impossible for government to make the government more efficient...
It is astounding there are so many people who fail to realize this most basic concept rooted in reality....
But on we go, following all of our freedoms over the cliff like a heard of panicked cows...
Just what the socialists wanted...

Pardon my ignorance, but how is a new cabinet position created? I guess from the suddenness that it is an executive decision, not something that Congress votes on. I missed Bush's speech, but in the local news coverage of it at 11 p.m., the new cabinet post was mentioned as almost an afterthought.
