I did not know that he had sent the 'cap' to you and Joe.

I would request that We, The avid supporters of FR, keep this cap as a 'sort of trust'.
I shall now request that The Cap be kept by you and BADJOE as custodians of that trust.
Let us offer it as an auction item on all future 'Freep-a-thons'.
Let US Always Remember This... These last several days of these events of our Nation.
Let Us, the Freepers, and ALL True-Blue Conserative Americans..... Hold The "Cap" as This... the symbol of one of the finest fund raisers we have had.
Let Us Always Offer the "Cap" and when disaplaying the graphic of it ...include the words "Let's Roll"
This to be done in honor of lodwick who offered this which was his to give to help us raise funds for FR.....
And! I believe lodwick will agree wth me,....
A living symbol to the courage of such peole as Todd Beamer and those who did aid him to save many lives while those great Patriots did give their lives in such a selfless act.

Congratulations to all of you who helped make the fall Freepathon a success. It was my understanding that we were aiming for a total of $65,000. With a total of $77,190 so far, perhaps we'll be able to start making some modest payments on overdue attorney fees.

Free Republic will survive and meet its obligations, and will continue to grow and prosper, thanks to your efforts. I'm sure I've left out several names but it is my intention to thank all of you.

My wife and I flew out to New York for a long-awaited week's vacation on Friday, September 7. We were staying at the Marriott Hotel at the foot of the World Trade Center, and were returning from a most elegant breakfast on September 11 when all hell broke loose. I've read a remarkable narrative by a freeper named Tawiskaro which accurately describes the events of that day from street level.

Before our departure, I issued a challenge to the handful of Young Republicans at the university here: I placed a coffee can for Freepathon donations at our new Internet cafe, and promised that I would match any funds deposited therein upon my return. I've lost all my credit cards except one that is now charged to the limit (as well as everything else that was in our room at the Marriott), so you shall receive a money order by "snail mail" for $108. This is what makes the "Million Freeper Math" work so well.

After many attempts to return home, we finally gave up on air travel completely, at least until things return to some state close to normal; and we took the train, arriving home three days late. We continue to pray for the families who were less fortunate than ours.

Philo is actually being very modest and self-effacing. His wife filled me in. That maxed-out credit card he mentioned was a VISA Platinum card -- the one card that he took to the restaurant on the morning of 9/11 -- and he spent most of it on bottled water and sandwiches, that he then hauled in for the rescue workers. He refused to leave the area until he was ordered to leave. The two of them were on the last ferry to New Jersey at about midnight.
