s/b Bye, Mom!

And F-14s, probably the finest stand-off aircraft ever designed. (Navy that is) No probably about it! Absolutely the finest stand-off aircraft ever designed!
O.K., I'm ready to be flamed by those pro-Airforce F-15/16 (I can't land on something as small as a carrier), and Marine F-18 (it doesn't matter if my pay check says dept of the NAVY).

Prayer continuing for our brave military and their families.
One of my friends has a son who's a SEAL, married earlier this spring. They top the prayer list these days.

O.K., I'm ready to be flamed by those pro-Airforce F-15/16 No flames, just a few facts. No F-16 has EVER been shot down in air-to-air combat. Its dogfight record against all other aircraft it has engaged is 50+ to ZERO. It was THE multi-role workhorse fighter of the Persian Gulf Conflict and is unsurpassed unequalled among fighter aircraft. (btw, with a tailhook the F-16 can land on an A/C carrier and without a tailhook the F-14 will slide right off the deck into the ocean just like any other jet fighter -- except for a harrier and we won't even think about comparing that bird to the F-16 with a straight face)

Here's a great page with info on the B-1: http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/usa/bomber/b-1b.htm I think it can carry just about anything that they want to put into it, but the thing that struck me was the vast increase in capacity vs. a B-52. They are taking the B-1's to deliver some serious "crowd-pleasers" IMHO.

Hey, knock it off....I'm retired AF ya know. Worked Eagles and Phantoms. Love the TomCat tho. Problem with 15's/16's landing on carriers is the landing gear can't handle the thuds required to bring them in hot on a carrier deck. All fine A/C, but I always liked the F-4s too. (F-4, proof that if you put a big enough engine on it, ANYTHING can fly).

The reason enemy pilots don't sleep well!

What a cool name :D

Just friendly rivalry, no real fight intended. Let's just agree that they can all do Infinite Justice to these terrorists.

Ummm, I may be convinced that the 16 can land on carriers, but I thought that they had (about) the same landing gear as the 15. The 15's gear is just TOO light to stand up to a carrier landing. The 16 may weigh less and therefore cause less stress to the gear. I've never seen one land on a carrier tho'.

Please, not at all. I admire the Corps. Spent time at an Army Base in Germany (3 years). And appreciate the floating airfield guys. I'd be proud to serve with any branch. Sorry if you thought I got mad.

I prefer "Operation American Steel". Is there an official name yet? Does anyone else have a name for the operation?
