WHERE WOULD YOU GET YOUR NEWS FROM IF FREEREPUBLIC WASN'T HERE? Thread 2
September 18, 2001
| FReepers and Lurkers who care about FreeRepublic

It is not always easy or fun sitting at a computer for hours and hours monitoring these threads. Everyone person here is a VOLUNTEER. As a matter of fact, we pay to do this. We spend days and weeks helping to keep FreeRepublic running.
Ask yourself these questions:
Where is the first place I go to get my news?
Am I getting any benefit from FreeRepublic?
Am I learning from FreeRepublic?
FreeRepublic is not free. It costs Jim Robinson tens of thousands of dollars to keep this forum running. There are over 60,000 registered users on FreeRepublic and only 1,000 help keep this forum running regularly. Those who do not have the ability to donate money could help by stopping by and giving a bump. Those who who do have the means and have not contributed, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You are a FReeploader.
We do not want to see this forum dead, therefore, we are asking that you help keep FreeRepublic running.
If everyone who registered donated one measly dollar a month, we would never have to have a fundraiser again.

(HAVE YOU DONE YOUR PART TO KEEP THE LIGHTS ON AT FR?)
To: all
Large donations receive loud hurrahs but small ones are perhaps more significant ..... more sacrificial. The size of your donation doesn't matter ...... that you helped to keep FR on the web does.
If every FReeper donated just $1.00 per month, we would never again have to have a fundraiser ..... the money would be there to pay the bills each month.
Are you doing your part? If you have already donated, then your bump will help, too.

RottiBiz requested that I repost a couple of posts I ran a couple of threads ago. Now, keep in mind that they are for the past week, where traffic increased by a good 50%, but if the Robinsons hadn't built the site to handle it, where would we be?
Just running some numbers over the past week: -More than 74,000 distinct hosts served per day
-More than 2,024,000 requests for information from JohnRob's Mighty Mouse server per day
-Over 62 GB of information transferred per day (to put it in bandwidth terms, that's an average of better than 5890 kbps, or nearly 4 T-1 lines, and that's every last second of the day).
Handling that kind of traffic costs, folks. Of course, I'm preaching to the choir, but that's so the choir can preach to the masses.
One last number to chew on from this past week: 3357 distinct posters per day. If these 3300 or so (rounded down for easier math) donated a mere $9/month, we would be completely self-sufficient.

This is from the previous thread after I had to leave: posts #73, 98, 106, 119, 127, 136 from BADJOE - my (bad) quick in the head math tells me that is $1,055.00 and at post #98 BADJOE remarked that over $5,000 had been raised today.
I have only one thing to say
THANK YOU FREEPERS
Actually I have a second thing to say - - WIMom has been unrelenting in her work to get others to contribute - and I think she deserves a MAJOR round of applause.
THANK YOU WIMom
