WHERE WOULD YOU GET YOUR NEWS FROM IF FREEREPUBLIC WASN'T HERE? Thread 2
September 18, 2001 | FReepers and Lurkers who care about FreeRepublic

Posted on 09/18/2001 2:39:01 PM PDT by WIMom

It is not always easy or fun sitting at a computer for hours and hours monitoring these threads. Everyone person here is a VOLUNTEER. As a matter of fact, we pay to do this. We spend days and weeks helping to keep FreeRepublic running.

Ask yourself these questions:

Where is the first place I go to get my news?
Am I getting any benefit from FreeRepublic?
Am I learning from FreeRepublic?

FreeRepublic is not free. It costs Jim Robinson tens of thousands of dollars to keep this forum running. There are over 60,000 registered users on FreeRepublic and only 1,000 help keep this forum running regularly. Those who do not have the ability to donate money could help by stopping by and giving a bump. Those who who do have the means and have not contributed, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You are a FReeploader.

We do not want to see this forum dead, therefore, we are asking that you help keep FreeRepublic running.

If everyone who registered donated one measly dollar a month, we would never have to have a fundraiser again.

can't believe that FR and it's higher-ups would choose this time, of all the times to ask for our financial support!

I love FR, but don't we have enough to worry about, only one week after the terrorist actions in NYC & DC?

Gosh you are so right on, in times like these every nickle needs to be named and accounted for. With the prospect of a war coming that most people are not even close to comprehending, every individual will need all the money they can scrape together.
It just isn't right or fair to ask people to give in a time of need, what the hell are FR higher ups thinkin.

"You just had one anyway a few months ago."

Because 98% of the 'registered FReepers/lurkers' don't participate in 'Keeping the Lights on at FR', there is a fundraiser every quarter, not out of want, but out of NEED.

You are correct that we all have things that demand our attention now; however, FreeRepublic is a patriotic venture to those of us who seek truth in media.

Bless you for your past support, and hopefully you can see your way to help FR in the future, MVV. Sorry, you can't help FR this time around, but thank you for the 'bump', anyway. FReegards.

Well said, Howlin!

But there's more ...... because we do not ... cannot ..... charge for this web site ...... it depends entirely on voluntary donations.

Since people don't send money in monthly (though more and more are), there are now quarterly fundraisers ..... that's every 3 months for those in Palm Beach County.

This one was started well before 9/11/01. It was suspended for a few days in the aftermath of the horrendous acts of that day.

But this site must be kept running ....... the bills must still be paid. It is perhaps more important than ever. So now the FReepathon continues .......

And the sooner we reach our goal, the sooner it will end ...... anyone saying that they love FR but hate the fundraiser threads can end them much more quickly with their donation.

"Can you direct me to a site that explains PAYPAL?"

Paypal is like an online banking system. You can deposit money into your account via credit card or from a checking/savings account -- or all of the above! You can also deposit money into your banking account and send payments via paypal by sending it to the persons email address by clicking on the 'Send Money' button on the paypal.com website. It is all instantaneously done. You click 'send money' and type in the amount, and Jim Rob's Email address (or anyone else) and he receives it automatically.

Deposits and withdrawls from bank accounts normally take 2 days based on my experience with Paypal. It is also very useful for receiving auction payments on Ebay and Yahoo! In fact, if you have 'junk' sitting around the house, you can sell those items on Ebay, and use the money you make to donate it to Free Republic over paypal and never have to actually handle the money.

Paypal also has an extensive history list on its site on what you have done with your money so it's very useful to keep up with where your money has been going.
